My eyelids are the achilles heel of my 50-something face. They puff and droop at the slightest excuse--excessive starch or salt, sleep deprivation, or just because they feel like it. Basically, they remind me of my teenagers--intractable despite my persistent efforts at "guidance."

I am a sucker for eye treatments that say "lifting" or "firming," and own at least five or six--all to no avail. Even the YBF Correct did nothing for me (although I'm on my third bottle of YBF Defend--good stuff). So when I received a sample of YBF Refresh ($80 in the TIA shop) I was pleased to try it--because I know YBF is good--but not particularly hopeful.

It so happened that I had just received my order of Reluma's Skin-Illuminating Serum a few days earlier, so I decided to apply Refresh to my left eyelid and Reluma to my right. I know it's an unfair comparison but I wanted to see the difference, if any. The difference took several days to show up, but it did show up. I began looking more awake and wide-eyed in both eyes. My good-eyes days began to outnumber the bad. I was pleasantly surprised.

Refresh is consistent with its name: it feels refreshing and makes my eyes look more refreshed. The Refresh eyelid is still less open than the Reluma eyelid, but that could be due to the fact that my left eyelid has a narrower crease than my right, which causes the lid to droop more. My eyes are naturally asymmetrical. I will reverse the products now and see if it makes any difference.

I should add that Refresh is not heavy enough for my under-eye area, which is chronically dry. I dab on coconut oil whenever I'm in the kitchen, and apply clear lip balm (Carlson's Vitamin E or Avalon's Vitamin C) when I'm out. I know it's unconventional, but it's compact and moisturizing. So I only applied Refresh to my lids.

I think I'll add Refresh to my next order of Defend.

I've found most eye 'serums' drying especially when the weather changes. I use 100% Pure Coffee Bean eye cream for moisturizing because it contains caffeine which helps with puffiness and droop and it's such a beautiful formula. As for a corrective serum, I haven't found anything that can beat Cellbone Eye Contour. I try not to use it every day because I'm suspicious of the DMAE, but since the tiniest amount works I keep going back to it.

    Kitri,

Thanks for the good review. I, too, have been enjoying Refresh. I've been surprisingly happy with the results and think I like it as much as Correct.

My new plan is to do as a few other TIAers do: alternate the two serums. Oh, and once the products sink in I've been patting creamy DeVita eye cream over them for extra hydration.

  • I love your unconventional use of lip balm! I sometimes twirl it in the dry ends of my hair and find that it works better than most hair products for taming split ends and frizzies. The other thing I've recently taken to, is using rich eye creams on my upper lip. I've just started to notice tiny lines creeping to the edges of my lip, and the eye cream seems to do the trick. That area (the skin between the nose and upper lip) doesn't produce much oil - which is becoming more noticeable as I climb to my mid 40's. Anyway, great review and thanks for the new trick!
