Healing and removing scars
Many of you asked how I removed my scarring, so here is some information for you all. After my attack, I was left with slash marks on both cheeks and I had nasty marks on my forehead where the druggie had stamped on my head wearing boots. The boots left an imprint, tore my scalp and stones lodged into my forehead. I had horrid marks all over.
So I was devastated. Not just from a vain point of view, but every time I looked in the mirror I didn’t want to see the damage that had been done and be reminded of the incident. So I set to work. Now, I had always used skin care products and read up lots and lots about it so I had a good knowledge of skin and its workings.
I waited until my skin had healed. Well, I woke up out of coma 11 months after my attack. The damage had healed. My doctors had done a good job at stitching, the wounds, cleaning them and removing any debris, but I looked a terrible mess. I asked my Consultant to show me a scan of my face. I could see the cracks in my scull and jaw etc and he was able to do an ultra sound to tell me how deep the scarring went. Thankfully, most were superficial but they would not get any better due to being rips and forced trauma. One was raised and, well, it was horrid.
I started to read about peels and how to remove damaged skin. I also looked into dermabrasion, not the normal type but the kind done in surgery with a scouring pad. It made me feel sick and in the pictures I saw the skin looked so plastic afterwards that I decided to do it my way.
My skin needed gently coaxing into letting go of those layers that were scarred. So I devised a regime of peels to be done every 2 weeks. Yes, every 2 weeks, but they were very mild so healing was quick and rapid with no down time. I went online and found a most lovely lady who helped me in every way. I’m not sure if she has been mentioned in the forum before but her name is Julie Robbins and she makes retinoic acid peels in different strengths. I emailed her and she recommended a few products. I needed a peel that would help with the damaged DNA and at the same time increase my skin’s ability to rebuild my the dermal matrix. Retinoic acid was my chosen ingredient due to all of rejuvenating factors. I had used retin A before and had seen its benefits but I wanted something that was less artificial in a base that would nourish my skin at the same time. She was selling it, so I was sorted.
I also needed a super serum to heal the skin and support this rebuilding so I went online and bought some copper peptide and pure low molecular hyaluronic acid serum. I was prescribed some strong epidermal growth factor normally used for burn patients and I had read about L-proline and its benefits for collagen and skin so I got loads of that powder. I also got some centella extract for its healing capacity and, erm, what was the other, oh yes, beta glucan powder, ferulic acid and carnosine to help with the new cell production.
I got a bowl, mixed them together and there was my potent rebuilding mixture. I made it in big batches and kept it in the fridge. I used a variety of deep moisturizers and cleansers at this time to nourish my skin, including Sarah Chapman’s Oil Cleanser and Oil Serum at night.
Next the peels. I applied them every two weeks, as instructed, using cotton buds to apply directly to my face and massaging the really bad areas. Three days later I peeled just a teeny paper-thin amount. I used tons of my mixture with those disposable face mask things. So that was my regular routine. I peeled and then healed and peeled and healed. Only small amounts of skin came away so I had no down time or redness or irritation.
After three moths I saw a massive difference. My skin was brighter and some of the scarring was flatter and less noticeable. Also the color of the scarring had started to even out and match my normal skin tone. But I still had more to go.
I got a slightly stronger retinoic acid peel from Julie and she blended it with some HA and other actives and it was amazing. It allowed me to peel very gently but more frequently. The epidermal growth factor was so strong I almost healed overnight.
A year later things were looking better. I had undergone lots of surgery in that year but I kept to my plan and did my peels I even instructed the Nurse how to do it whilst I was in Intensive care for a while. She thought I was mad, but she saw the results and I get it for her now!!
I had four holes in my face from stones that were kicked in. They were pitted scarring so I spoke to Julie and I bought a Cross TCA kit and I gently applied a teeny drop of TCA into the marks. I did this every month. My skin was a lot smoother now and I noticed I was line free. Totally. How amazing was that! I was able to get some concentrated collagen amino acid cream with GABA from Julie and mixed it into my serums to keep the skin from wrinkling so the new skin layers being produced would remain line free. It worked a treat.
My skin was a bit dry as it was working overtime to make new skin so on the advice of a dermatologist added grape seed oil and camellia oil to my mixture. She also told me to get a very short needle dermaroller and to use it carefully on the area that needed more attention than others. Wow it worked so well.
Now many of you have heard of the Hayflick limit or what ever its called, I was so worried about over doing it and losing the ability to make new cells that I approached a rather famous dermatologist and explained about my treatment and mixture used and he said I would be okay as I was using potent actives to keep the cells coming.
If you imagine a piece of wood in which there are small grooves that you have to sand down to make it smooth. This is what I did to my face, but not by taking away loads of layers at a time just teeny amounts at a time whilst producing new layers deep down.
After two years, the scars were gone. The deep marks had filled themselves in from the cross peels and the rest had sloughed away slowly but surely. Everyone said I looked so well and so much younger, I had an ultra sound on my skin and it was really healthy and thick. I had no lines at all which was so amazing.
Now this may seem like an aggressive treatment regimen but because I bathed my skin and saturated them with nutrients I had no problems at all. Someone could have had this type of scarring removed with maybe two or three deep peels or one wire dermabrasion peel but the massive amount of trauma caused to the skin would have played havoc and left a weird waxy look to the skin.
So now I help lots of people to remove scarring after trauma and I have 6 people who I treat every week now as I want then to get over the accidents fully and get back to normal life again. I also help Julie out on her website and advise people who to remove scarring and marks on their faces. I guess experience is the best way of learning. I’ve learned that we need to treat the skin kindly and not have massive deep resurfacing treatments that traumatize the skin and make vast amounts of inflammation in the skin Our skin is an amazing thing and it shows you what can be achieved.
So I’ve had a kidney and liver transplant as a result of the accident, as well as dozens and dozens of surgeries and masses of medications. I’ve had a Spinal Cord Stimulator Implant, (4th machine now as they kept on breaking). But my face looks kind of cool now so when I look in the mirror I see the old Danny smiling back at me.
Any questions please fire away. I could have made this article 20 times as long but I’m aware of space so I cut it down to this.

Wow, that's a truly amazing story. I'm so happy for you that you were able to repair you skin. And then to think I was worried about tiny acne scars... Thanks for sharing.

That was an amazing story and I'm so glad you have repaired your skin and are able to help others too. I have a large scar over my eye that is raised and hypopigmented (white). I would love to know where you purchased your additives to make your own serum and what you advise I try to improve my scarring. I also have a long red surgical scar on my abdomen. I would love to fade it. Any advice would be appreciated.

hi, Danny
thank you for sharing!
I have a question:
my skin overall is in pretty good shape, no wrinkles.
the problem is the under-eye area - it seems, no matter what I do, it's not enough: skin is kind of dry, literally "sucks in" any moisturizer, and on a "thin" side.
I am using a collagen building serum with eGF, and a complete lipids serum over. It's better, but not as much, as I think it could be.
oh, I also do peels with Eminence Naseberry Undereye Peel, then go over with deep moisturizing mask. The effect lasts a day or 2.
vitA makes my under eye skin very dry.
can you recommend anything?
I hope those bastards burn in hell!

Hi oksana , thank you so much for your reply to my story . I do have the perfect thing for you. Firstly you need £30 and then you go on the Environ online store and you buy the skin stamp . It's like a dermaroller. But in the shape of a like a postage stamping thing so it's small. The needles are so tiny you can't feel
Them at all in the slightest. The best thing is that you can use them directly under and around your eyes!!! Even the eye lids!!!! And it can be done every night .start slowly by doing it every other night .
The teeny needles make minute holes in the skin. These holes cause rapid healing and thickening of the area around the eyes. You will see a difference in weeks . Can also flatten scarring . You can do the stamping all over and apply your skin care and it goes in much deeper. Gradually the skin thickens up. No need to use eye peels any more with this method as the treatment will work far better. My new trick and this is amazing is to apply a layer of YBF eve stuff around my eyes and literally stamp it into my skin!!! So my product gets pushed deeper. Works so so much better!!! Honest you can't even feel the teeny needles . Don't buy any other brand as the needles may be bigger and this will cause damage . Yes even use it on eye lids!!!!!! Stops sagging eye lids. When serum is in the apply a non exfoliating eye cream to add moisture .
This will work !! I'm telling you. The only problems with Derma rollers are when people buy big needle sizes and literally rip collagen fibres apart.
If your using the collagen promoting serum with EGF by the company I'm thinking of then stop .it's rubbish !!! I analysed it and the EGF was so minute it wouldn't heal a flee!!! The ybf eye stuff is amazing . Bless darryl for sending me some . I also search for detmaquest peptide mobiliser and use around my eyes as it's incredible too. I'm trying Osmosis eye product at the mo and am getting results . Using this with the stamp will help thicken the skin .
Hope I haven't given you too much info just ask away . It's my pleasure

Oksana , just had a thought . Get Julie Robbins Day and eye cream to use over serums after your treatment . It's a dream to use and eyes adore .not too heavy to use. Adds tons of moisture like nothing else

Abbey . We can he rid of your scarring too. The scar on your abdomen because it's red it still has a good blood supply . Silver stretch marks are so hard to remove as the blood supply has been compromised. I don't know if any one has heard of Julie Robbins but she makes great stuff and her products were responsible for my scar removal. For the body I'd say her infusion pee would be amazing. It's retinoic acid combined with loads of hyaluronic acid and plant oils.you gets nourishing peel and a very gentle peel. Amazing on the face and body.body scarring also responds really well to derma rolling and stamping but gently and nor using massive needles . It's brings back the blood supply and may help to flatten out raised scarring . My actives I searched every where for good quality stuff. Some companies sell inferior actives . I used garden of wisdom as I checked their actives and they were great too. Also bulk actives another one. Used lots of julie Robbins stiff to.that lady helped me so much.
Hope that helped . Ask me anything any time . Hugs xx Danny

Danny,
You are not only courageous but brilliant! My mind is spinning from all the work you've described...and work it was!
I call you courageous, as such a horrible, degrading experience would have changed many for the worse; however, you fought back...and regained your outward beauty, I might add. :-)

Danny thank you so much for your reply and for sharing your story. You have a great deal of courage and determination. I'm going to try your suggestions. I hope all the people you are helping to heal have the same great results that you did. God bless.

I just wanted to share this white scar camouflage trick I discovered for the scar over my eye. I tried every top end concealer under the sun but it just made it look worse and did not cover it. I got the idea to try a lip liner because they are heavy, waxy, long wearing and can target a straight line. I purchased Chanel lip liner in beige and it's perfect. It covers and lasts like nothing else. I dab some of my mineral makeup over it to blend. If you have white scarring on your face try finding a lip liner that blends with your skin tone.

Danny,
thank you so much!!!
great advise, and I am looking at both Environ and JR websites. The idea of "stamping" is ingenious and makes all the sense.
I'll keep you posted.
best wishes!

Danny:
I know others have said this before me, but I've just read your post and I am so impressed that you were able to rise above the despair you must have felt initially, and just set to work finding the best solution ( so to speak) for your skin, and for other people. I love the stamp idea and will look into it as well. You are an inspiration, and also a tremendous source of new knowledge, too. Thanks for everything you've told us.

Hi Danny
So sorry to hear what you have gone thru...Great to hear you are sharing your story and information with others...thank you. Just a quick question. My son is 7 years old. He was born with a "birth mark" we worked with some wonderful doctors and based on the information we choose to have the mark removed...so at the small age of well..almost 1 year old..we took care of the potential cancer risk the mark posed. He did great and all is good he has what we call a "super cool scar" that will some day come in handy to "impress" the girls(that sounds bad). Anyway the scar is slightly raised and looks similar to what Frankenstine sported on his head. The surgon is really good (it took two surgeries and we avoided skin graphs) The scar tissue "grows" with him. It is flesh color. What would you suggest? Should I just leave it alone? It does not bug him its just my guiltyness as a mother. I would be interested in what you would suggest. Im not sure I am comfortable with growth factors. Although they have worked great for me on a small surgery scar (basal cell) on my face. Thanks

That's right Susan . I was so impressed with the products and got to know every product so well I help jules voluntarily to advise people on what to use and how to get rid of scarring .
Ps the three people got sent to jail. One got 17 years , one 15 and one 11. So guess that knowledge helped me cope better. Still
Have my mental scars and unfortunately they can't be removed as with a scar . But I feel that if I can tell my story and help other people make changes in their lives then some positive has come of this . Any questions from anyone ask away or I can help anyone who wants to remove scars or marks with a plan of action. U will let marta give out my email address so you can write to me properly . If I can help
You I sure will :)

I just read this post today and all I can say is OMG!! Danny's strength, his desire to help others, the outpouring of compassion from TIA! TIA and it's members..just the BEST!! Danny I'm all about EGF's since using E'shee (it works)! Your super serum contained a prescription strength EGF which I believe was key. For those who cannot get a prescription EGF and want something more econmical than E'shee for all over the face what would you recommend? Thanks so much for all your responses to our comments as I know that responding to so many does take time. You are an extraordinary person, thank you for sharing!

Hi Danny, thanks for sharing and I feel i've learned a few things already! I am interested in the skin stamp to thicken skin around the eye area, and I am wondering if since it helps droopy eyes if it would help with bags as well. I thought it might since the skin would be thicker?
Also I have some mild acne and it is scarring on my lower my lower cheeks. I am going to purchase the baby quasar and baby blue and wonder what might help for a serum? Some of them are indented scars instead of raised also. Thanks :)

Wow, this is truly inspiring, and a wonderful read. Not only do you look great, but I admire your courage, stamina and intelligence to work out and through this long recovery - just awesome!
Now, I've quickly read up on Julie Robbins, and people appear to be rather happy with her peels. May I ask which one you used initially, where you did one every couple of weeks - was it the Apeel perhaps? As I understand it, it's a retinoic peel, so how is it different from plain old tretinoin?
Also, the epidermal growth factor you were prescribed, would you mind revealing the name of it?
Once again, thank you for sharing. :)

First of all, I echo everyone else in saying that you are a true inspiration and I am so glad to hear that the perpetrators were punished. I am really excited about all of this knowledge regarding peels. I would love to know what you would recommend for a small pit in the skin (nose) where a mole was removed? Is there a way to plump that skin up? Also, what would be a good maintenance peel to combat enlarged pores? Thanks so much!!!
Posted on February 14, 2011 at 5:49 am
Danny, I've been reading your articles here at TIA. I share everyone's emphatic support of you. I am horrified to learn from this article that you had to have organ transplants and a spinal stimulator. I can't imagine the mind behind such abuse. I hope your work on clearing your scars has helped to give some ease to your mind, as well. You are an inspiration; not once have you condemned your attacker(s) here, but instead have focused on your healing. I will try to learn from you.

Hi Danny!! Let me first commend you on such a great triumph!! I couldn't imagine going through anything such as what you have and I can only congratulate you on your sheer strength and perseverance. I applaud you!
I do have a few quick questions...I am interested in the "skin stamp" from Environ that you suggested to Oksana (above). I went on the Environ website and can't seem to find a "stamp," only a roller. Could you please send a link?? And also, is is available for purchase to the general public?? It says that authorization is required....what does that mean?
Thanks so much!!!
Posted on February 16, 2011 at 9:36 am
Is it possible to get Danny's email?
Posted on February 16, 2011 at 1:49 pm
hi, Beth
I have purchased Environ "stamp" from www.touchofskincare.com
Danny,
do you have any thoughts on cuperose vessels? I've tried photorejuvenation - doesn't last long. the only area affected is around my nose.
please!

What a powerful, awe-inspiring testimony. I have to give God the glory, because all that you went through, you found the courage and the tenacity, strength and the desire to transform what was meant for evil into something beautiful. Revelationary Danny, what a beautiful, uplifting and remarkable journey you've had. All I can say is WOW, how great is that!!!!!
Posted on February 17, 2011 at 9:54 am
Ok, might I add, that there is sooooooo much info going on here, that as a newbie, I am lost much of the time! Wish there was a user guide available for all the combination of products and what they do, as it is I have to hunt and search to connect the dots. Nevertheless! I will trudge onward until I find the elusive products that will help my beautiful brown skin :D
Thanks everyone for all that you do!

Hi Danny,
I was so excited to hear about all your treatments. I emailed Julie Robins but have not heard back yet, and since you mentioned you help her, I'd like your advice.
1. What is the best treatment to get rid of pitted acne scars that are over 30 years old?
2. What is the best treatment for marionette lines (mouth to chin) for 58 year old skin? (Julie's product and/or fillers like Restalyn?)
3. Which Environ Cosmetic roller do you recommend, the larger CIT or the smaller Focus CIT? What products do you use with them?
Thank you so much!
Lynda
Posted on February 19, 2011 at 7:10 am
Lynda,
Danny referred to the Focus CIT in his reply to me; the peptide serum was from Dermaquest - Peptide Mobilizer (see his post at the very "top").
Posted on February 19, 2011 at 3:25 pm
Hi Oksana,
Thanks so much for your help. I went to the Dermaquest website, and it also seems to be for professionals - I can't find a way to place an order. Do you know of a website that sells this?
Also, I still not sure what combinations of products or peels to use. How does the Focus CIT fit in the the skin peel, etc from Julie Robins?... Do you use them all at once, or once step at a time?
I'm hoping to get some advice from Danny or Julie - and any you have to offer. Thanks again.
Lynda
Posted on February 19, 2011 at 6:17 pm
hi, Lynda
I have not ordered from Dermaquest; however, I have received a sample from Julie Robbins - a pepetide serum, which I have applied around my eyes along with a warm compress (serum/piece of seran wrap/warm cloth - in that order x 10-15 min), per Julie's instructions - it worked very nicely.
the Environ "stamp" is a stimulating treatment to be done after cleansing and prior to serum or moisturizing cream application. It stimulates the blood flow and absorption of nutrients, as well as some onflammatory reaction and collagen formation/skin "thickening".
peels have nothing to do with Environ "stamp"; in fact, "stamping" shpuld not be done over "peeled" skin - you may need to wait a week to start "stamping", otherwise, you may end up with too much stimulation/inflammation/reaction.
I tried TCA Latte peel, and it did nothing for my skin I am heistant to use more concentrated, "high-tech" peels - the process of peeling from start to finish may take a good week; unrealistic for me. I have been using Eminence Pumpkin Enzyme peel at home (5% lactic acid) weekly with great results - my skin is very sensitive, etc. You may want to try that - it's a nice, gentle start on peeling. BuyNaturalSKinCare.com is a good resource for Eminence products, if you are interested.
Currentl, I am using Julie's Perfect Light 10 cream w/Synerlight - like it very much! Amaizing Day and Eye cream is great too - day and eyes ;-)
hope, it helps!
Danny is the one with the abundance of knowledge - I am also looking forward to hearing, what he has to say.
Julie can be hard to get.
Posted on February 20, 2011 at 2:06 pm
Hi,
Does anyone know how to reach Julia Robins? I emailed her some questions, but she has not replied, and her website says she does not answer email regularly.
There's a number on her website: "To place an order by phone call 410-521-0123" but when I called, someone answered and said there is no one there by that number. Perhaps it's a wrong number, or the number changed?
I'm very excited about her products, but I'd like some advice on what to buy, and I'm reluctant to buy anything when you can't reach them either my email or phone.
Any ideas? (Or perhaps Danny has given out his email?)
Thanks again!
Lynda
Posted on February 21, 2011 at 9:48 am
Lynda,
I have ordered via internet and received my products as promised by priority mail - no problems.
Posted on February 21, 2011 at 10:15 am
Thanks again, Oksana. I did want some advice on what's best for me, since you said the TCA Latte peel did nothing for your skin, which you said is sensitive. Mine is not, and I have had stonger peels from a dermatologist, so I doubt it will be strong enought for me. I'd like to try the TCA cross, but it says it's for professionals only.
Also - does the lifting serum really work on marionette lines? Most of what I've read said that serums do a limited job, if anything. Yet it would be nicer and less expensive that injectable fillers. Any thoughts on that?
Thanks again for your help!
Lynda

Thanks Oksana for the link!!! Just one more quick question:
The only products that I can find on the site are not really like a stamp but more like a roller....am I looking in the right place? And Environ offers 2 different rollers, a "full sized roller" and another smaller one. Which one would did you purchase?? (that is if I, in fact, am looking in the right spot!)
Here is the link to the products I found:

Thanks so much and look forward to your feedback :)))

Is there any way to remove a keloid scar without surgery?
Thanks.
Posted on February 10, 2012 at 7:18 am
I'm not sure to be honest because from what I understand about that type of scarring any more damage to the area can cause more thickening of the scar tissue . I will speak to my friend who I a dermatologist and see what he says . I will let you know but I think the area abd excess scar tissue has to be taken away but I have a feeling this could mean surgery to remove the affected part of skin . Not sure if the new type of lasers available are able to remove all the keloid layers without causing more keloid scarring to build up . My scarring was a lot more superficial even though it was all over . Very frequent but gentle peels and derma rolling helped me to remove mine . A keloid scar how ever may get thicker from this type of treatment so please don't try it . Best to speak to a dermatologist first . Regards x Danny

Hi Danny,
Keep up the good work.
Was just wondering what strength Epidermal Growth Factor you used and your experience with it. There are some strong ones such as Regen-D, do you think these are safe and what was your experience with them? I am looking for something to treat thin skin on the face.
Thanks

Good for you Danny. You took an horrific experience and use it to make a difference to others. Many blessings on you. Have you ever heard of the organization "To Write Love on Her Arm"? They help teens in crisis, particularly ones who cut themselves. Your experience at healing might be a worthwhile testimony for these struggling kids. Keep up the good work!

Hi Danny,
Thanks so much for your sharing your incredible story and your journey toward self-healing! Sometimes I have to take an honest look at my worry about my acne scarring and realize that I should grateful.
I was curious about what the name of the EGF cream you used is. I'm thinking I might ask my derm to prescribe it for me and see what she says. Also, for the healing serum that you kept refrigerated can you give an idea of the proportions used for all the actives and what base cream you used.
Thanks again for sharing your story, and I wish you all the best.
