Skin Perfection 10% Glycolic Acid Cleanser- reviewed and recommended
Thanks to Lisa, Truth In Aging readers are getting a 15% at Skin-Perfection (coupon code: TIA15) and I immediately took advantage of it to stock up on a few of their natural skincare items, including the cleanser with 10% glycolic acid ($13.50). I have been having troublesome, breakout skin for the past few weeks and the pores on my nose have enlarged horribly. The description of Skin Perfection’s cleanser suggested it had been designed for me. At the first use it performed as advertised.
This is not a gentle cleanser, but if you are need of seeing off excess sebum, this is the cleanser for you. It may not be for everyday use but for those afflicted with acne, hormonal breakouts or blocked pores, judicious use will – at least in my experience – keep problems at bay. I was most impressed by the effect on those ugly enlarged pores. After washing and drying my skin, I squeezed/scraped gently with a tissue and the sebum just came away. A dab of toner and I looked much more presentable than I have in a while.
With such good results, it seems churlish to quibble. But I do find the presentation of glycolic acid confusing. The name of the product implies that there is a 10% dose of glycolic. However, the ingredients list ends with “anti blemish essential oil blend with 10% glycolic acid, 2% salicylic acid”. Does that mean that the smallest ingredient by concentration is a blend of oils of which 10% is glycolic acid? That would make glycolic a very tiny part of the overall product.
Nonetheless, it does what it is supposed to do and is joined by other good and (mostly) organic ingredients. I particularly like rooibus tea. This South African plant isn’t a tea at all, but a member of the pea famiy. Anyhow, generations of South Africans have imbibed it as a liquid cure-all for everything from skin allergies to HIV-AIDS. It has at least two antioxidants, the flavenoid aspathalin and the polyphenolic called nothofagin. Plus there seems to be plenty of research to support claims that it is a potent antioxidant, perhaps out-doing green tea.
Methyl Sufonyl Methane (MSM) is also interesting. It enhances tissue pliability and encourages repairs damaged skin. If there is insufficient sulfur in the body when new cells are being manufactured, the new cells will be rigid. When sufficient sulfur is present for new cells, the skin is softer, smoother and more flexible. Without Methyl Sufonyl Methane (MSM), bodies are unable to regenerate healthy cells, leading to problems such as lost flexibility, scar tissue, wrinkles, varicose veins, and dry cracking skin. It is also used as a dissolving agent in cosmetic and beauty products that assists formulas in dissolving and allows them to penetrate the skin more easily.

A week or two ago, I posted about my acne issues, and my hopes for this cleanser. That post seems to have disappeared since the site went down earlier this week.
I've been using the Skin Perfection 10% glycolic cleanser for almost a week, one time a day (2x seems too irritating) and haven't seen much of a change. I am going to keep using it for a while longer in case the product needs longer to be effective.
The only thing which seems to help me so far has been the Astara blue flame mask, and I will never be able to thank Marta enough for that product. I've been using it as an over night spot treatment, and it works well at shrinking blemishes, although they often come back by the end of the day.
Marta you had mentioned that Nutra Lift makes an acne treatment- have you tried it?

Hi Indigo, This will over time lighten hyperpigmentation from acne, if that is what you are referring to by scarring. If you use it before going outside, you should certainly wear sunscreen as it will make your skin more sensitive. Hope that helps answer your question.
