C13-14 Isoparaffin
* An emollient
Functions:
C13-14 Isoparaffin is a mixture of hydrocarbons (mineral oils) derived from petroleum, and is used in cosmetics and personal care products primarily as an emollient, and also considered a thickening agent or gelling ingredient (FaceProducts-Online). Little additional information is available regarding C13-14 Isoparaffin, and isoparaffins are simply defined as gelling or thickening agents; petroleum is a known moisturizer.
Safety Measures/Side Effects:
However, petroleum can be contaminated with carcinogens and is blacklisted as an ingredient by the European Union. According to Marta's post about Aquaphor and Petroleum Safety, "certain impurities may be in the petrolatum and they can cause allergies and even be a carcinogen. Cosmetics should use highly refined petroleum that has been cleaned of these impurities."
Nonetheless, the Cosmetics Database rates C13-14 Isoparaffin as a low hazard ingredient, noting the only concerns as organ system toxicity based on animal studies that showed effects at moderate doses. The EWG does cite that C13-14 Isoparaffin is considered a pesticide inert by the Environmental Protection Agency, meaning that it could be potentially toxic. No other studies were found that listed any negative side effects or health hazards regarding the use of topically applied C13-14 Isoparaffin.

False Advertisement Is Against The Law. But no one does anything about it and these companies know it so, they continue to put out products for skin care with false and misleading advertisements in the media, television, radio, magazines, celebrity endorsement infomercials and ads, even on the packages the products are contained in. Some of the worst violators are the companies who put out Acne Products and Makeup/Cosmetic Products and even worse are the Organic Companies. They claim, Dermatologist Tested, Recommended By Dermatologists, Won't Clog Pores, Oil Free, etc... Then they charge a rediculous price for the false hope and banking on the fact most people don't return the products after finding out that they don't work. Not like acne sufferers don't already have enough emotional issues because of the acne itself. Everyone knows Mineral Oil Clogs Pores, Including Dermatologists. And if they do not contain Mineral Oil, they contain other chemicals that interfere with your hormones such as, Parabens, Musks, Toluene, Phthalates, Methylisothiazolinone (in alot of shampoo, conditioners, soaps, lotions, makeup, etc.) Now companies get deceptive and put the scientific, herbal, abbreviated, names in the ingredients, once again banking on you not returning it and now your lack of knowledge. Something needs to be done about this because it is way out of control. Theft is theft and there is laws for business, corporations, companies partnerships, etc...
