DMDM Hydantoin is a controversial ingredient because of its formaldehyde properties. Although the releasing of formaldehyde is the process that makes the environment less favorable for microorganisms (source), this process is what makes it an effective cleanser and preservative in many beauty products. According to RealSelf.com, it is primarily found in shampoo, conditioner, make up bases and foundations.
Safety Measures/Side Effects:
DMDM Hydantoin is sometimes considered dangerous because of its toxic formaldehyde component, although the percentage is so small that it has been approved safe by the Cosmetic Ingredient Review Expert Panel. It can cause irritation or an allergic reaction on sensitive skin.

I am allergic to Balsam of Peru, also propylene glycol. benzonic acids, just about everything under the SUN. Can I safely use LANDERS essesntials COCONUT 3 -IN-1. It is a shampoo, bath and body wash.
