Fabulous Skin at Any Age
Ahhh, 20… little did we know how good we had it then (or some of us anyway). Skin in your 20s is glowing, plump with collagen, strong and resilient. However, this is the age when we are laying the groundwork for our future, so it’s important to start establishing a great skincare regimen now and stick with it. It needn’t be complicated – a simple, 100% pure cleanser and a light moisturizer formulated for your particular skin type, and you’re all set. Sunscreen, provided it’s in the form of a hat or UV protective clothing or only in the form of titanium and zinc oxides, is also a key factor in keeping your skin looking healthy for decades to come. When you have issues like hormonal acne, use products that balance oil production and are not drying.
Products to try:
Suki Exfoliate Foaming Cleanser ($32.95) is a deep-cleansing alpha hydroxy acid complexion rejuvenator, with key ingredients that include natural sugar, non-GMO rice flour and citric acid (lemongrass). The cleanser resurfaces and smooths skin, and unclogs pores.
Real Purity Cleansing Gel ($16) is a non-oily, gently penetrating cleanser that clears pores, while maintaining the all-important moisture balance of the skin.
Jurlique Clarifying Day Care Lotion ($36/30mL) is a lightly-textured moisturizer that leaves the skin feeling soft and comfortable. Avocado and rosehips oils help to prevent moisture loss, rebalance and soften skin; while carrot root extract offers skin smoothing, softening and restorative properties.
When we hit our 30s, it is possible that skin can already begin to lose some of its elasticity, and it may begin to show some fine lines and wrinkles. But don’t get too caught up about it! This decade is all about gaining confidence, and embracing your true self, your true beauty. If you are taking good care of yourself, and your skin, your face is going to evolve naturally and beautifully. However, it’s time to tweak your skincare regimen and add in some antioxidants to prevent free-radical damage, and perhaps a really good anti-inflammatory to ward off redness, puffiness and imbalances.
Products to try:
Juice Beauty Exfoliating Cleanser ($22 in the TIA shop) gently exfoliates with dissolving jojoba beads, creating a complexion that is clean, brightened and refined. This nutrient-rich formula works to feed skin with vitamins and antioxidants to reveal a radiant complexion.

This peel exfoliates damaged cells, decongests pores, helps reduce the appearance of blemishes, evens skin tone and soothes inflammation.
Josie Moran 100% Pure Argan Oil ($48) is a lightweight oil, grown organically in Morocco, that is packed with vitamin E and essential fatty acids. Use it as a fast-absorbing daily moisturizer, or to heal and condition everything from cuticles to split ends. Plus it is 100% organic and housed in a recyclable glass bottle!
Korres Wild Rose 24-hour Moisturising & Brightening Cream ($35) is a moisturizing and brightening cream, with wild rose oil, a natural source of Vitamin C, which helps repair the look of fine lines and skin discolorations.
In your 40s, skincare is all about hydration, repair and replenishment. This is the decade when the cumulative effects of exposure to toxins, called free-radical damage, can catch up with skin in the form of blotchy, red or ruddy complexions. As more collagen and moisture is lost, cell turnover is slowed and deep lines become more prominent. This is where products like peels, exfoliants and retinols come in, all now available in natural forms. Remember too, that skin repairs itself as you sleep, so aim for seven to eight hours a night. Also, start using a richer cream with antioxidants as well as a an emollient eye cream with ingredients like caffeine and licorice root (a fabulous alternative to toxic hydroquinone).

50s and beyond
When you reach your 50s, it’s all about hydration, repair and… did I say hydration?! Drier skin – especially for those who have been battling oily skin woes for years – may come as a surprise. This is because your sebaceous glands start producing less and less oil. In addition, wrinkles become more prominent and the area around the eyes may hollow due to collagen and fat loss. With deepening wrinkles, sagging, and emerging red spots, we do need to be diligent with our skincare regimens.
These later decades are also when we start to own our age. And it is a great thing to embrace what our growth, development, and every darn wrinkle means. I think nature meant for us to evolve at this point in our lives, to develop compassion and empathy, and be less concerned about appearances. After all, women become more beautiful as they get older. Youth is just a different type of beauty.
