Just as it's hard finding an environmentally-friendly shampoo or conditioner, it's equally challenging finding a salon with the same ethos. Luckily, there's Arena Salon in the Lower East Side that practices eco standards, using only eco-friendly products. It's here that I was introduced to Mastey Frehair Daily Detangler Conditioner (it's also here at Arena that fans of Amy Sedaris frequent, as the hilarious comedian is a regular client!). Not only is the salon concerned about chemical-free products and the best for your hair, they encourage women with "silver hairs" to embrace them (believe it or not, I have silver hairs and I'm starting to think it's sexy, in an Anderson Cooper kind of way).
Mastey is the original sulfate-free shampoo, so that's already a big statement about the brand. It's completely natural and paraben free. The Mastey Frehair Daily Detangler Conditioner is oil and dye-free and also made without wax and propylene glycol (no harsh ingredients!), with botanically-derived lipids and moisture factors that replenish from the outside in.
When I used it, it was a gorgeous scent and my hair felt soft, moisturized and actually manageable (you know how some conditioners make your hair feel gunky with weird residue? Not here.) There are rice proteins that help maintain healthy hair texture (it penetrates the hair shaft to rebuild and strengthen damaged hair). A bonus is the sunflower seed extract, which helps protect your hair color. Mastey Frehair Daily Detangler Conditioner controls flyaway hairs (I don't have this problem but I can see how this works). Thanks, cetyl alcohol (which is derived from coconut and palm oils and not a drying alcohol)!
