Long and languid days are hallmarks of summertime, and unfortunately another can be extreme heat. My skin seems at its worst when the temperature rises above 80°, and lately it has really become rebellious trying to cope with steamy triple-digit weather.
Although my face is oily year-round, summertime heat and humidity can send my oil glands into high gear. Combine this with sweat, airborne dirt and pollutants, and it creates perfect conditions for congested skin, acne blemishes, clogged pores and blackheads. This is what I’ve been dealing with. More frequent washing would seem to be the answer, but that can over-strip the skin, resulting in more oil production.
So, rather than being overly aggressive with washing, I’ve added exfoliation to my skincare routine using Skinfinite Micro Derma Scrub (3.3oz/$35 in the TIA shop). I like this scrub because it doesn’t just exfoliate but also includes ingredients that are kind to the skin like bamboo powder with flavonoids (with their purifying, astringent and anti-inflammatory properties, they act as a natural exfoliator). Also included is passionflower extract with antioxidant, moisturizing, anti-inflammatory, and anti-aging benefits. It also contains lactic acid, an alpha hydroxy acid (AHA) that hydrates and exfoliates, reducing wrinkles and hyperpigmentation. A pleasant surprise is rosewood oil. It may seem counterintuitive to use a product containing oil to combat oiliness, but that’s just what my research confirmed. Rosewood oil acts as a perfect toner. It helps reduce sebum formation and prevents pimples, boils, and blackheads.
Before going to bed, I used the Micro Derma Scrub, massaging lightly on a wet face, twice the first week and then three times weekly after that. (Only a small amount is needed for the entire face, so this 3.3-oz jar should last a long time.) The first thing I noticed right after using the product was that my skin felt soft and hydrated – not dry and stripped (maybe the rosewood oil?). I also noticed that after use my skin didn’t become oily as quickly. (I also want to mention the gender-neutral fragrance is heavenly, so it’s a bit more like a spa experience to use than just scrubbing your face.) After the second use, I could see a visible difference with my congested skin clearing up. Now it seems that I’m keeping pace by using it two to three times a week to keep my pores clear. After applying to my face, I used what was left on my palms to give the back of my hands a treatment too, and they looked a bit better. I liked this product – it performed as stated and worked well for me.
Note: This is not just for oily skin but is recommended by Skinfinite for all skin types.
