Five Best eyelash and eyebrow growth products 2009 updated

Eyelash growth products with prostaglandins almost all work, but all too often cause side effects, as our readers have reported with, for example, Lilash, such as severe irritation and even hair sprouting in cheeks. Our Five Best picks - Hydropetide (available at the TIA shop) Folligen, Marini Lash, Dermalash and Keracyte-B - are prostaglandin free and we have tested them and know that they work on lashes and eyebrows.

i've been using rapidlash for the past four months or so with outstanding results! last week a waitress at a diner asked me if i had eyeliner on...also, i had just started going back to a barber i hadn't seen in a year....she 'made a scene' about my eyelashes, telling me they looked fake. she called a couple other female barbers over so they could see. she said not only are they long, they're thick and dark..i didn't tell her my rapidlash secret!

just another quick word on the rapidlash...though my lashes looked healthier/more lush at the beginning, i didn't notice growth until shortly after the four week period...it's like it literally happened overnight! i can't tell you how pleased i am with the results and it's so worth every penny(approx. fifty bucks for up to a two month supply) to me!

I used Lilash for 12 weeks befor it amazingly worked! After a few more months though it started making the skin around my eyes sore and red. I tried stopping using it for a 10 day period a couple of times and even using it less but now just one application makes them red again. I've sadly given up. I'm on the lookout for another brand that doesn't irritate, so i might try Rapid lash.

I used LiLash with great results, no negative side effects. I've heard their new formulation does not work so I bought the Hydropeptide, every time I use it I wake up with swollen, weepy eyes so I guess I'm allergic to it. I'm trying out Rapidlash next.

the use of folligen makes the skin turn green. obviously there is copper in the solution. is there any evidenc that this copper build up is harmful?

  • marta says:

I've been using Folligen for over a year and it hasn't turned by skin green. Copper exists naturally in our bodies.

I've been using Folligen on my lower lash's for almost a year now. The copper does seem to oxidize as it dries, creating a smoky grey/black liner effect, which I LIKE. This might be different for each individual based on the skin's PH? For me, it serves a 2 fold purpose, lash enhancer and liner :) It does not stain my skin and wash's off completely each night. My lower lash's look full healthy without irritation.

I tried the new Jan Marini for three months. No results at all.

    Folligen is animal tested.

Which of the products that you recommend are not animal tested?

  • marta says:

    Hi Priya,
I share your dislike and concern about animal testing. However, I don't recommend products that are not animal tested. This is because I'm not sure that it is meaningful to say that a product is not animal tested - even if the product itself has not been near an animal, the individual ingredients are bound to include some that are animal tested.

  • Hi MArta and happy New Year . I read the lash report. Im 50 -50 about itIt is interesting . I have been getting good results with hair nails & lashes just by taking the filthy tasting Bio Sill (amazon ) as well as DR Wolz Body Oxygen again from Amazon's betterlife web. Actually ive used Dr W for about 10 years now. I have little idea why Dr W works so well for me but the eye lashes (specially lower have certainly grown and remain that way . Its also helped me many a time to avoid flu . I did check it out idividually with three pharmacists here in Melbourne .All told me the same .What it does as it bio organic & a liquid, plus royal jelly. Is that the dose goes into your immune system in a few minutes. Where as synthetic supplements take up to 48 hours to absorb. ButDr W really does make my skin, and the rest of me look and feel much better. Hope this may be of some help to whoever is interested plus Amazon's betterlife is the BEST I think for supplements and vitamins .Kidn regards Primrose

I used Lumigan (the glaucoma medicine on which Latisse is based) last spring--shady dematologist in LA gave me a perscription. It definitely worked, but the growth was uneven and also the lashes were rather thin and insubstantial. When the perscription ran out, I started using Skin Actives, which I also apply to my eyebrows. I'm very satisfied--the lashes aren't super long, but thick and dark. Also, I had a bare patch on one of my lower eyelids that even Lumigan could do nothing for and the patch is now gone. So, price-wise and performance-wise, I prefer Skin Actives.

    Hi Marta,

Have you also tried Activlash? Do you think MD Lash Factor could also be in the Top 5?

Van, thanks for the reminder! I do need to give MD Lash a try as soon as I have finished testing a new one from Skin Actives. Watch this space.

I've been using RapidLash on my eyebrows for about 1-1/2 months and it has caused new hair growth. Unfortunately, the new hairs are not like my other brow hair - they are either curled or sticking straight out or so long they need to be trimmed. It's possible that the hibernating follicles have aged so I'm going to continue using the RapidLash to see if they eventually produce normal brow hair. I haven't tried the product on my lashes because I'm afraid new lashes might come in going in all directions and then I'll be in trouble with them poking me in the eye.
