Mad Hippie Antioxidant Facial Oil protects and deeply hydrates for skin that feels soft and supple while antioxidants soothe and protect against photo-aging. This facial oil contains a combination of moisturizing oils, such as argan, sea buckthorn berry, pomegrante and sunflower seed, as well as fruit extracts, camu camu berry, which is a rich source of vitamin C.

TIA Review by Becky:
I’ve never been tempted to take a swig of any of my skincare products – until now. The new Mad Hippie Antioxidant Facial Oil smells so enticing that sniffing it was all I could do to keep my hands from heading towards my face and away from my mouth after tipping the luscious smelling concoction onto my fingers every night.

That’s a good thing too, as this oil has been a great and surprising addition to my skincare routine. I’ve always had combination skin and hadn’t even considered adding more oil to my skin, which typically starts each day already slick in the T-zone. That changed after discovering argan oil via Acure and Kahina.

My perspective also changed when I learned that argan oil could have a balancing effect on combination skin like mine. The Mad Hippie Antioxidant Facial Oil did the same and added a nice glowing affect as well – equally effective when applied after treatments such as Retin-A or Osmosis Replenish or on its own on a lazy night of skincare. The oil sinks in quickly and does not leave any residue on my pillow or sheets. In fact, I’ve been too heavy handed a few times but everything still absorbed just fine and seemed to perform the same. I have not experienced any breakouts, something I suspected might happen. I started using this product in early spring in Seattle, which can either be shorts or parka weather – or both from day to day. I’d like to see how it performs in the dead of winter.

Mad Hippie does target this oil to dry complexions and I can see why. Along with heavy-hitting oils like argan, sunflower and pomegranate, there are no fewer than 14 fruit and plant extracts (18 actives) in this small purple-labeled bottle. Raspberry, blueberry, goji berry and camu camu (this one was completely new to me and is apparently a great source of vitamin C – 30x more than in an orange), to name a few. The most surprising to me was broccoli! The key active in broccoli oil is superoxide-dismutase, known for its anti-inflammatory and antioxidant affects. Apparently, broccoli oil is also known as a hair treatment for treating frizz and thinning – not something I tested this time around.

There is no information available on what percentage of each oil is present in Mad Hippie’s antioxidant oil or whether any of the oils are more or less responsible for the touted affects extra moisture for dry skin. Anyone reading this site already knows the power of antioxidants in treating aging skin. Mad Hippie seems to be operating under the belief that “the more the merrier.” I’d be curious to know what the selection process was for each and how much is in each bottle. It’d also be interesting to see this Mad Hippie product go head to head against some of the other organic antioxidant products in the TIA shop, such as Mukti Antioxidant Facial Oil.

In the meantime, I’ll continue to use this enjoyable, effective, and affordable oil as part of my skincare routine.

Mad Hippie is such a wonderful company in general, and this product is no exception. I feel like they are one of the few brands out there providing non-toxic, nature-based skincare with truly efficacious ingredients that are actually in my price range! This is a wonderful multi-tasking facial oil, one of my favorite kinds of product. I use them as a moisturizer (including around my eyes), chapstick, cuticle and nail treatment, and even to smoothe flyaways in my hair. This oil absorbs well (but will take longer than your typical non-oil moisturizer) and has a light, pleasant scent. I never experienced any irritation, even around my eyes, and if I dropped some it didn't stain sheets or clothes. I took one star off because even though I appreciate it's in a dark container to protect the stability of the ingredients I really wish it had a pump, a la the Snowberry facial oil. I always make a mess with the dropper and it's much more difficult to dispense precisely.

I'm loving this oil. It's very light, and sinks into my skin quickly. I'm using it in the winter to keep dry skin at bay - I don't normally use moisturizers so this is just the trick for me. Very pleased - but then again, I haven't found a Mad Hippie product I didn't love.

I am really enjoying this product. It smells lovely, a little goes a long way, and it leaves my skin very supple. I have only used it at night so far, after my night cream, and it's not too greasy. I am curious to see how it performs now that it's getting cold here in Europe! I would recommended it to a friend - actually, I have!

  • Hi Terri,

This facial oil does contain camu camu berry, which is a rich source of vitamin C; however, the main purpose of this oil is to hydrate and nourish. While it will certainly provide a nice boost of vitamin C to your regimen, I wouldn't advice using it to replace your current vitamin C serum, if you use one. I hope this clarifies things for you!

  • By any chance with all the fruit extracts, is this a source of vitamin C?

I should start by saying I live in hot and humid Houston, TX. Houston is not only hot and humid, its weather is moody and changes dramatically. So... I initially tested this product in the middle of the summer with high hopes that were disappointed because it was to heavy and just wasn't overall impressive. So it got pushed to the back of my cabinet to collect dust. However, come winter my skin needed more moisture than my lightweight moisturizer could give and I found myself reaching for the forgotten bottle. This time I was pleasantly surprised by the results and kept reaching for this product throughout the winter. It did not clog my pores or irritate my combination skin when used in moderation, and it absorbed well for an oil.

I faithfully used this product for four weeks as directed (in the evening only), and I noticed an increase in the softness of my skin. My skin is not especially dry, and I used this product as my evening moisturizer for 4 weeks. I love the way it feels, smells and how it is absorbed into the skin quickly. Additionally, my lips chap in the winter, and I applied this oil to my lips morning and evening with impressive results: lovely, soft lips. While this product is for the face, I admit I also applied it to other areas of my body that were in need of some extra moisture, and I was very impressed with the resulting super soft skin. I can’t recommend this product highly enough — it does what it says it will and does so without any synthetic additives.

I was hesitant to use this because I have combination/oily and somewhat sensitive skin, but purchased it thinking my skin could use a boost during this cold winter. I thought this oil might be too "rich" for my skin, but I was pleasantly surprised. The oil is easy to apply and it absorbed quickly, leaving my skin feeling soft and smooth and has a “calming” effect on my skin. I have used this about 3 times, once a week at night for 3 weeks. I don't put moisturizer on after I use this though, and it may not be suitable for me during the summer. But I like this product for the cold winter months and am very pleased with it, as I am with most of the Mad Hippie products.
