I receive emails every day from readers asking for advice as to which skincare products they should use. When they are generic enough to be useful to others, I share them in an article.

Dear Marta,
I am in my 30s and I have the beginnings of forehead lines and an oily T-zone. My skin looks dull. Should I be considering a serious anti-aging product?

Hi A,
It's definitely a good idea to start using good anti-aging products in your 30s. But I would steer you away from the ones that are really designed to repair existing damage, such as stem cell serums. Without much damage to repair, you'll be wasting your money. It is a good idea to look for products with antioxidants as these may help prevent future damage from free radicals.

You, like many other 30-somethings, will benefit greatly from a gentle glycolic exfoliator. This will help brighten dulling skin that is one of the first signs of aging in relatively young people. There are other benefits too, that will directly address your needs. A glycolic exfoliator will also help with those forehead lines and control your T-zone of oily and breakout-prone skin.

Take a look at Juice Beauty's Green Apple Peel  or La Vie Celeste's glycolic mask ($60 in the TIA shop).  You can use these two, maximum three times a week to start with. And when you start seeing a brighter complexion, you can rein it back to once a week. Your skin will be more sensitive to the sun as result of using a glycolic exfoliator, so do use a sunscreen after using it.

A good serum for you would be Your Best Face Defend ($120) or Your Best Face Balance ($45 in the TIA shop). They both bring anti-aging ingredients, but without overdoing it. Your skin will start to benefit from the antioxidants of Defend immediately and you’ll be going a good way to prevent future deterioration. Both are formulated for oily and breakout skin. Defend keeps shine at bay and will not clog pores or cause breakouts. Plus it should even out skin tone and give it a "fresh" appearance. Balance, according one reviewer, helps skin look healthy, feel matte and be calm. YBF says it may prevent new breakouts as well as helps to decrease the duration and damage of existing breakouts. It also has carnosine to help extend the life cycle of cells.
