Spring is officially here! We decided to peruse cosmetic giant, Sephora’s Spring Beauty “Beauty Breakthrough” list to see what was new in skin care. What Sephora came up with was quite varied — we found ourselves going through anti-aging creams and concoctions with active ingredients such as apple stem cells, quercetin, viniferine, grape seed extract and soy protein.

We grabbed four products from the list to sum up how we think they would fare based on their contents. Click through the photos below and let us know what your experience has been with them too in the comments!

Bliss Triple Oxygen + C Energizing Cream, ($54 ) THE GOOD: Butylene glycol helps retain moisture, coconut oil contains antiseptic fatty acids; ascorbyl tetraisopalmitate is a powerful antioxidant which also clears up blemishes; squalene a non greasy moisturizer.THE BAD: Ethylhexylglycerin is generally safe but also found to be an irritant in some cases. THE IFFY: C12-13 Alkyl Lactate Mixture of synthetic compounds derived from petroleum and lactic acid but the Cosmetics Safety Database has flagged it for having gaps in data.

Peter Thomas Roth FIRMx Growth Factor Extreme Neuropeptide Serum ($150). This product is said to “trigger” ten different skin responses by reminding the complexion to act and look younger. Helping cell turnover with line filling cyclopentasiloxane, moisturizing phospholipids, hydrating dimethicone and sodium PCA and infused with peptides, this product also contains no phthalates or sulfates, which may make it add up to it’s price tag.

Korres Quercetin & Oak Antiaging & Antiwrinkle Oil-Control Treatment ($50). Quercetin has been found by studies at Cornell University to be a potent antioxidant and this product is packed with it. Also paired with smoothing hyaluronic acid and inflammation-reducing epilobium fleischeri extract which acts as an astringent, it’s a favorable concoction for oily skin without leaving behind other skin conditioning and healing properties (like jojoba and sunflower seed oil).

Caudalie Premier Cru La Crème, ($150). Used in facials at The Plaza Hotel according to our own writer, Jimmy, this product use UV-blocking grape-seed polyphenols and resveratrol to fight free radicals and stimulate cell renewal. Viniferine also contains the appearance of dark spots and brightens complexion. So far we’ve had a pretty good experience with Caudalie’s products – and this one just sounds like a facial in a bottle.
