Shampoo leaves hair soft and silky and helps with hair growth

I am 41 years old and my hair is oily but the edges are dry and prone to split ends so I have to trim carefully. The length is up to the back a little lower than the shoulders. For the past year my hair has been thinning and falling much more than usual. So I have been trying some of the mainstream brands that promise to make hair thicker and stop the shedding. I started with most brands in pharmacies and tried a couple of salon brands as well, but without satisfactory results, and did not try the monoxidil products.

Alterna Caviar Daily Detoxifying Shampoo ($32) promises to reduce the amount of DHT on the surface of the scalp and to eliminate follicle-clogging dirt, excess sebum and environmental residues, allowing fuller, thicker-looking hair to surface. Women rarely lose hair to the extreme that men do; however, many experience a significant reduction in the diameter of the hair shaft leading to an overall hair thinning.

DHT is supposed to be a key contributor to hair loss, a derivative of the male hormone testosterone, is the enemy of hair follicles. DHT shrinks hair follicles, making it difficult for healthy hair to survive. The hormonal process of testosterone converting to DHT, which then harms hair follicles, happens in both men and women. Under normal conditions, women have a minute fraction of the level of testosterone that men have, but even a lower level can cause DHT- triggered hair loss in women. DHT levels can be elevated and be within what doctors consider "normal range" on a blood test, but they may be high enough to cause a problem. The levels may not rise at all and still be a problem if you have the kind of body chemistry that is overly sensitive to even regular levels of chemicals, including hormones. This pattern most often develops around the onset of menopause that is around 40s. Before menopause 13% of women experience hair thinning compared to 37% that experience this after menopause.

I started using Alterna Caviar Daily Detoxifying Shampoo 3 weeks ago. I did not use other products, conditioner etc., to see if any improvements are due to this product and not something else. The substance is thick and it needs just a modest amount to create a good rub. I massaged it for two minutes and left it for five minutes until rinsing. It lathers very well, does not have a strong odor like other brands and does not stick to the hair after rinsing like other sulphate and paraben-free products I have used.

What I noticed from the first weak I that it cleans very well - the hair is left clean but not dry. I noticed I actually don't need to apply conditioner because the hair is easily untangled, does not have knots and gets very easily brushed. It is a little frizzy, but that is the natural state of my hair. However I did not notice noticeable hair falling in the first week. The second week however I noticed that the ends became dryer and a little rough (only the ends). So I applied a few drops of argan oil, only at the tips, to avoid split ends. The third week I noticed that some new follicles have been growing more noticeably. I can feel the new growth with my fingertips and also that a have slightly less hair falling.

Overall my experience with Alterna Caviar Daily Detoxyfing Shampoo has been positive, I like that the hair is softer, more easily managed and it grows better. Regarding the ends, this might be dealt with the accompanying Alterna products such a their Bamboo Smooth Frizz Correcting Lotion, and the growth might be stronger if I had used the weekly boosting treatment or the stimulator.
