An effective night-time treatment for acne

Clears blemishes and prevents breakouts

Oily skin and blemishes provide enough angst in the teenage years, but for many like me, can follow on to adulthood. On the positive side, I do believe the excess oil has likely contributed to less facial aging, and for this I am ever so grateful. But this positive comes at a cost, as blemishes, blocked pores and acne are the close companions of oily skin. Not only do they mar the complexion but also contribute to unnecessary stress.

Along comes Arcona The Solution Pads ($45  in the shop), a night-time treatment intending to treat acne-prone skin and address aging skin. Although I’ve tried treatment pads with salicylic acid in the past, these go far beyond that concept. These cotton pads are well soaked with liquid containing 4% glycolic solution to provide a deep exfoliation, helping to decongest skin while it also stimulates rapid cell renewal, giving a fresher look to the skin. This treatment also includes the free radical scavenger Spin Trap (Phenyl Butyl Nitrone), to help address anti-aging.

I found the Arcona pads very easy to incorporate in my routine, using before bedtime on clean skin. The pads are large and fully soaked so they easily cover the entire face and neck (front and back). Having a textured surface, they managed to pick up a bit of dirt my cleanser left behind even after what I thought was a thorough cleansing prior to use. The first couple of applications gave my skin a slight (but not uncomfortable) tingle that quickly disappeared. Directions suggest using 2-4 times per week, so I began the first week using twice, then three times weekly thereafter. (There will probably be some weeks I will use four times, so this jar should last well over three months.) For me, I find the 4% glycolic solution doesn’t irritate my skin the way that the salicylic acid I used in the past can. Also my skin feels refreshed after use, not overly dry or stripped.

After a few weeks I find my results have all been positive. A couple of blemishes I had prior to using the pads quickly disappeared after the first use. My complexion has improved as I haven’t had any other blemishes or breakouts while testing the pads, and my skin has remained clear and fresh. I like and recommend this product for the ease of use, efficacy and the way it has delivered on its promises. (Arcona recommends this product for combination, congested and/or acne prone skin.)

The pads really didn't have any noticeable fragrance, which is another plus for the product. Thanks for the question, Caris.

How does the solution smell? I tried the Arcona cranberry and found it rather overpowering.

So glad The Solution Pads worked out for you Mark. I am a big fan. I don't use them for breakouts, but they greatly help to refine the skin (pores and sun damage).
