A natural clarifying cleanser that is great for oily, blemish-prone skin

Pros

Keeps face and body blemish- free

Cons

Has chemical surfactants

My skin changes according to weather conditions, and now that it's summer, I prefer products that will clarify and prevent blemishes for my skin. I wanted to try the Astara Blue Flame Purifying Gel Cleanser ($42) because of its promising benefits. It's a gel-based cleanser for combination/oily/blemish-prone skin, with natural ingredients and AHAs combined to address skin concerns such as excess oil and blemishes.

For reference, I am 30 years old with oily - combination skin with occasional dryness due to cold weather and exposure to elements. I used Astara Blue Flame Purifying Gel Cleanser for four weeks, day and night, as a face and body cleanser for blemish prone areas such as my chest.

It was interesting to note that the combination of AHAs from apple, green tea, and sugar cane extracts provide clarifying benefits to the skin as well as antioxidant protection. I also love its potent combination of other natural extracts — strawberry and pomegranate (powerful antioxidants), pink grapefruit, lemongrass, citrus (clarifying), tea tree oil (antibacterial), petitgrain, bergamot and lavender (soothing and aromatic).

I noticed the scent first. It was quite strong, but being a perfume junkie, I am attracted to natural aromas. The lavender, tea tree and citrus extracts have a wonderfully calming and soothing effect on my senses. Though it does not foam well, the cleanser takes away oil and dirt and rinses clean, leaving no sticky residue behind.

It is a great cleanser for maintaining healthy skin and keeping my face and body blemish- free. It is non-drying, and I love the calming scent. It might not be good for people with sensitive skin, or for those who are averse to strong fragrances. But if you're oily and you need a natural clarifying cleanser, be sure to give this a try.

Though it does not contain SLS, it still does have chemical surfactants, so that might be an issue to people who are looking for organic products. Personally though, it works fine with me and it's a great addition to my cleansing routine.
