The Astara Mask Sampler Kit ($69) is a great collection of masks that enable you to make a custom treatment tailored to what your skin needs. This kit comes with six different types of masks, and a soft applicator brush in a handy zippered bag. For a person in her mid-30s with combination and sensitive skin, I found this to be an effective way to adjust my mask applications based on my current skin troubles. Their break-down is as follows:
Astara Nourishing Vitamin Mask is creamy white mask that is very hydrating. This mask has properties to slow aging, promote cell renewal, and provide replenishment. I found this mask to be very soothing on the areas of my face that were getting flaky from the winter elements. Skin types needing moisture will like this mask for its ingredients of royal jelly, soy phospholipids, and hydrolyzed oat protein.
Astara Activated Sea Mineral Mask is a light mask with small blue-green particles, aiding in exfoliating, oxygenating and moisturizing the skin. This mask contains jojoba beads, Spirulina, and rosemary to “remineralize” your face. I applied this all over my face and did notice a smoother complexion, however I found it difficult to completely rinse off and disliked the strong mineral smell.
Astara Golden Flame Hydration Mask is a product I think all skin types would appreciate. This is a light gel that packs a punch! Whether I applied this mask to main facial areas and rinsed off or applied as a spot treatment and left on overnight, I noticed hydrated and glowing skin each time. Vitamins B and E, and sodium hyaluronate seemed to plump my skin and kept flaking skin at bay for days. Directions say it can be added to any other masks as well. It did not cause me to break out and thus would recommend this for all skin types. This was by far my favorite mask of the six due to its versatility.
Astara Green Papaya Nutrient Mask is pretty green color with a fruity smell. I applied it all over my face once and on specific areas two separate times to find radiant and refined skin afterwards. I am prone to some redness and this mask didn’t irritate my skin; instead, it actually reduced some of the inflammation I was having in my cheek area. This mask will can be used for many skin types by just adjusting the frequency of application. The ingredients include many oils and extracts including those from grapefruit, oranges, mangos, papayas, passion fruit, and pineapples.
Astara Violet Flame Enzyme Mask is a light purple color with a floral smell. Ingredients such as Vitamin A and E, pineapple, and sugar cane help to unclog pores and exfoliate. I was very careful with this mask as it cautions fair skinned people may experience redness. Since I am prone to redness naturally, I only applied this to my neck and marionette lines. This mask tingles slightly when on but once removed my skin looked firm and toned, with minimal redness in the areas I used it. I think this would be a wonderful as a neck/décolletage mask for everyone and a face mask for those with less sensitive skin.
Last but not least, the Astara Blue Flame Purification Mask is a savior if you have breakouts. I used this blue bentonite clay mask on my t-zone to see a reduction in pore size and breakout frequency. As a spot treatment it is a must have! A small dot on the blemish, leave on overnight, and the blemish is less than half the size in the morning. As one of the ingredients, tee tree oil, does give this mask a prominent smell. I will gladly endure the smell of this mask for the outstanding benefits it provides in clearing my skin.
The Astara Mask Sampler Kit provides a great selection of masks for any skin type. The versatility of the products, coupled with the small of amount of product you need, offer a way to get multiple uses out of one small jar. With the exception of the Activated Sea Mineral Mask, I would recommend this kit to anyone looking for masks that truly provide results. I personally like to use a combination of 2 to 3 different masks on specific areas of my face to make a custom at-home spa experience. If you don’t know what kind of mask your skin really needs, get this kit from Astara — you may need all of them!
