I recently reviewed the Avalon Organics Essential Lift Firming Moisturizer SPF 15. The cost ranges from $11.93 to $19.95 for two ounces. I offer this review with the disclaimer that I have more “mature” skin (40-ish), and while not really dry, it does need extra moisture, especially in the winter months. I tried to use this product daily throughout March and applied it to my entire face, but it was so drying that I had to discontinue use.

Avalon Organics Essential Lift SPF 15 is a moisturizer formulated with zinc as a physical sunblock as opposed to a lot of organic SPFs that use some sort of chemical sunblock. Since zinc is a physical sunblock, this product has a slight white tint to it, which will not really show up much on lighter skin tones but may be an issue for those who are on the darker side. That being said, an SPF of only 15, in my opinion, really does little to no good as far as sunscreens (my dermatologist recommends at minimum an SPF 30 sunblock). So I would not use this product as a sunscreen but rather as a moisturizer.

I usually like Avalon Organics products, but this lift cream feels kind of heavy, and the “lift” seems to come from a drying and tightening of the skin. The lotion barely absorbed into my skin, so every time I touched my face, some of it would rub off. Also, the lavender scent is quite strong, not like the fresh scent in the cleanser. I love the Avalon Organics cream cleanser. It doesn’t dry out my skin, it smells great (lavender), and it cleans well.

This day lotion might be better suited for someone with normal-oily skin... but this product was way too drying on mature skin – it felt more like spackle than moisturizer within a few minutes of application.
