I was asked to use and review the Avitalin Firming Fluid Face and Eye Serum ($55). This product comes from a skincare line developed by Marina Volod, an esthetician, to use in her clinic. According to the Avitalin website, she wanted to formulate products for her clients that were free of harmful chemicals. The ingredients in all Avitalin products are plant and marine based, and are selected to help promote skin-barrier repair. Also, these products are not tested on animals, which is something that I insist on in all products I use. You can read more about the company philosophy here.

I am a 59-year-old woman with normal skin. The very first thing I noticed about the Firming Fluid was the incredible fragrance. It is very pleasant and much like a lovely aromatherapy product, not heavy or cloying. Even my husband noticed – when he was next to me, he commented on how good it smelled. I applied the product per the directions, which was to use a small amount once a day around the eye area and on the rest of my face. The product had a nice consistency and spread easily. I chose to apply it in the morning and then proceeded with my normal moisturizer and sunscreen. I did notice a tightening effect on the skin and it seemed the firming effect was working. I nearly ran out of product, so I began to apply it more sparingly in my four-week trial, but I can’t say I saw any profound changes in my overall appearance. I tried my best to take decent before-and-after photos of the eye area, but I didn’t see any significant changes.

I’m not sure if I would buy the product at this point, even though I do like the company philosophy and the use of plant-based ingredients that are not harmful. I definitely loved the fragrance and can state that it did firm the skin. But whether these are long-lasting effects would require more time to really tell.

Ingredients: Aloe barbadensis (aloe) juice, Rosa damascena (rose) distillate, Helianthus annuus (sunflower) seed oil, emulsifying wax, vegetable glycerin, phospholipids, Limnanthes alba (meadowfoam) seed oil, Simmondsia chinensis (jojoba) oil, acetyl hexapeptide-8, palmitoyl oligopeptide, palmitoyl tetrapeptide-7, sodium hyaluronate (hyaluronic acid), Hippophae rhamnoides (sea buckthorn) oil, stearic acid, tocopherol (vitamin E), ascorbic acid (vitamin C), Leuconostoc (radish root) ferment filtrate, Salix nigra (black willowbark) extract, fragrance (essential oils)
