The Blissoma Pure Sensitive Skin Soothing Complex ($25.99) is a water-free blend of herbs and oils that is indeed soothing as well as amply moisturizing. Most of the ingredients are organically grown, and the product does not contain any harsh or chemical preservatives. It is simply packaged and easy to use.
Dispensed from a traditional pump, the Soothing Complex is a bit heavier than a lotion, but it’s not quite a cream. There is a faint, earthy fragrance that is not unpleasant and dissipates quickly. It is a traditional moisturizer recommended to be used once daily. I used it sometimes for the day and sometimes for night. Since I use a sunscreen every day, the addition of another moisturizer was not really necessary. If the day was particularly cold or nasty, I'd double up. As a night cream, it wasn't quite heavy enough, so I could mix in additional oils. This mixed with a few drops of the Your Best Face Private Reserve Antioxidant Oil ($75 in the shop) was a perfect combination.
I found this cream to do a nice job of moisturizing and protecting my late-40s skin. On some of the worst winter days, it was nice to have the extra protection. It was healing for wind-burned cheeks. I even tried it on my lips, since it is all natural, but it didn't have a nice taste, so that was out. It was non-irritating around my eyes, even on the lids, which made for a nice primer. Under my eyes required additional moisture, though.
The first ingredient is plantago major, a common weed you may have seen growing in your garden or by the side of the road. Native Americans called it "snakeweed" because it was effective in drawing out the poison of a rattlesnake bite. It is used to calm inflammation and reduce redness. Another prominent ingredient is prunella vulgaris or "self-heal." This is a purple-flowered perennial used as a salve in treating wounds.
There are several anti-aging oils, among them curcubita pepo or pumpkin seed oil. Pumpkin seed oil provides emollient benefits and helps balance lipid levels on the skin’s surface. It also encourages exfoliation and promotes the health of collagen and elastin cells to encourage the production of new, healthy skin cells. High levels of phytosterols (a form of plant steroid) increase antioxidant enzyme activity and inhibit carcinogen production at the cellular level.
Calophyllum tacamahaca, or tamanu oil, seems to be a cure-all. It is used in acne products for its astringent and anti-bacterial properties, and it’s also promoted as a healing balm. It is a moisturizer and wrinkle reducer.
The ingredients in this product are not quick fixes; they are long term solutions to creating and maintaining beautiful, healthy skin for a lifetime. I think it would be appropriate for anyone at any time in their life.
At $25.99 for 1 oz, it is more affordable than many equivalent treatments. For me, the bottle lasted beyond the month, and I found two to three pumps per use to be more than enough. I like the idea of feeding my skin with nutritious ingredients, so I don't mind waiting a bit longer for results. I would buy this product again.
