Chella Water Resistant Black Mascara - reviewed and recommended

Smooth application, truly water resistant.

Results may be too modest for some users

A no-fuss water resistant mascara with natural ingredients for a natural look

While I'm not a daily wearer of make-up, there are those times I want a bit of accent. My favorite item has always been mascara. If it's not layered too heavily, it can be an unobtrusive enhancement.

My criterion for mascara is that it must be kind to my eyes, it must not flake or rub off too easily and it must wash off with cleanser and water. I don't care to use an oily eye make-up remover. I don't want to have to rub and pull lashes out.

I was satisfied with the results of Chella Water Resistant Black Mascara ($25). It is not an extravagant product. It gives a modest effect, neither too thick nor too thin. It isn't hard to stir and the brush doesn't hold gobs of paint when extracted. The wand is your standard tapered brush. Application was smooth - no clumping. I found one coat to be adequate. It dries quickly, so two or more coats have to be applied one after the other. My eyelashes did not dry to crispy either.

Unfortunately my eyes have become very sensitive to something in many mascaras. Even if I just try to brush the tips of my lashes, my eyes will water and itch or go insanely dry. When I would remove the cosmetic, my eyes would continue to be irritated. With Chella Water Resistant Black Mascara, my eyes didn't immediately start tearing and itching. They were not irritated at all.

The mascara washed off easily and cleanly. There was no need for a separate remover and it didn't leave residue under my eyes or on the towel. I also wore it under extreme conditions - horseback riding and a vigorous yoga workshop. Depending on how sweaty things got, it stayed in place. Saying water resistant rather than waterproof is a truthful representation.

And no eyelashes were harmed in the testing of this product! It didn't weaken or loosen my lashes. It is formulated to be vegan and a mostly organic cosmetic. There are plenty of emollients for soft, supple, healthy lashes like aloe, cocoa butter and saw palmetto.

I liked Chella Water Resistant Mascara, really more for what it isn't than what it is. It isn't harsh or irritating or difficult to remove. It isn't extravagant or gimmicky and provides satisfying results.
