This concentrated solution penetrates deep to unplug pores and help control shine

Lessens the look of pores, reduces oil and smooths the surface of skin

My skin has long been a fan of salicylic acid, so as soon as ClarityRx Fix It 2% Pore Perfecting Solution ($34) hit my desk, I was eager to start testing. It was early summer when I began using the product, and my oil production was in overdrive. I was also beginning to experience more frequent blemishes and more noticeable blackheads. I’ve come to expect these issues as a side effect of warmer temperatures, humid, smoggy New York City streets and sweat, but am always hopeful when a product promises to unplug pores and stop excess shine.

Enter ClarityRx Fix It. This is a concentrated solution that contains only three ingredients: purified water, alcohol and salicylic acid. The salicylic acid is obviously the star here and is included at a 2 percent concentration, which is considered extra-strength (most formulas use around a 1 percent concentration). Salicylic acid is a highly-effective pore cleanser. Because it is oil-soluble and lipophilic, SA has the ability to penetrate deep into skin where it works to dissolve dead skin cells and debris. In addition to these benefits, SA has been shown to lessen overactive oil glands and act as an anti-inflammatory, helping to reduce the swelling associated with blemishes.

I applied this serum nightly until the bottle was empty, which lasted over a month. Though the directions say that this product is best used as a night treatment, I also applied it some mornings when I felt that my skin needed the extra care or if a new blemish seemed to be appearing. The solution absorbs quickly and layers well under creams and sunscreen. Though it works to prevent excess oil, I did not find it overly-drying nor did I find it irritating—no redness or stinging upon application.

Over the course of the testing period, my skin did appear less congested. While I continued to experience the occasional (and inevitable) blemish, I was breaking out far less frequently. When I did get a pimple, the redness and swelling seemed to subside faster than usual. Also, my pores appeared smaller and my skin surface smoother as a result. I was sad to see the last drop of the solution poured out and will definitely be purchasing this product again to keep my skin in check. Highly recommended for anyone with oily or blemish-prone skin!

Hi Bridget, the short answer is that I do think it would be overkill to use this with a retin-a. Sorry!

Hi. I use retin A a few nights a week, so would this solution be “overkill” since I’m using retin A? I was shopping for a peptide serum on TIA when i stumbled upon this. I found 2 serums to purchase but am tempted to buy this too because I like anything that makes pores smaller.

    Thx for your help!
