The natural-looking finish instantly improves the look of your complexion while peptides and antioxidants work to slow skin aging

Hydrates, provides antioxidant protection and adds sheer coverage to hide imperfections

Not for purists

When searching for interesting BB creams recently, I noticed a trend: Many new formulas are appearing that eschew conventional SPFs (chemical or mineral sunscreen ingredients) and rely instead on antioxidants. This is very welcome as far as I am concerned, as I regard sunscreens as frenemies. So the idea of a tinted moisturizer with great antioxidants claiming the BB category gets my vote and one that certainly does is ClarityRx It’s Becoming Anti-Aging Concealing Moisturizer ($52 in the shop).

ClarityRx told me that this anti-aging concealing moisturizer blends with every complexion. I can’t confirm that, but my personal experience, based on my fair and ruddy skin tone, was extremely positive. This multitasker is nothing short of miraculous. It comes out of the pump looking grayish-white (like you would expect of a mineral sunscreen). Applied in a light layer, it appeared to be completely transparent, and then after about a minute, my face had a honey, sun-kissed hue. Apparently, the formula releases special encapsulated pigments that adapt to your natural skin color.

Most days, I have been content to use It's Becoming all over my face and then smooth out the aforementioned ruddy parts with a dab of foundation, used like a concealer. I like the overall effect better than just using foundation, but then I am a light coverage person. It’s Becoming is a light tinted moisturizer, even if it is clever enough to adapt to every skin tone, don’t expect the full coverage of foundation.

The formula contains a particularly well-chosen botanical, perilla frutescens, which is a member of the mint family. Research has shown it has anti-cancer compounds in the form of luteolin (a flavonoid antioxidant), triterpene, and rosmarinic acid. The latter is also supposed to be helpful in the prevention of allergic reactions. Also useful is white oak bark extract, a powerful astringent, antioxidant and anti-inflammatory.

The peptide included is acetyl tetrapeptide-2. It is said to mimic the body's natural growth hormone, thymopoietin, which triggers reparative processes and it can help create functional elastin. Moisturizers are in the form of squalane, sodium hyaluronate and nourishing jojoba and apricot oils.

There are a couple of ingredients to be aware of. Acrylates copolymers in general should not be ingested and have been shown to be irritating — although at much higher doses than would be ever be used cosmetically. Propylene glycol stearate is an unwanted ingredient that is a petroleum byproduct, irritant and penetration enhancer. The preservative is the potential neurotoxin and irritant, phenoxyethanol.

Overall, It’s Becoming has fewer nasties than most color cosmetics and certainly than most BB creams. I find it non-irritating and comfortable to wear. And, for me, the cleverly adaptive pigments make this a breakthrough product — which, increasingly from ClarityRX, is what I’ve come to expect.

    Hi Elisa

You really just summed it up as to why we don't carry the Amarte - most people didn't find it a good match. I am glad you found a solution though. I am really not sure if your system would work with It's Becoming. I am tempted to think it would not as you are meant to thoroughly blend the ClarityRX product into the skin to disperse the pigments which then are supposed to work for your skin tone. I don't think it would work to mix it with another product.

HI Marta, I have been using the amarte bb cream which i noticed you no longer are selling. I would mix a pump of the amarte with a squeeze of laura mercier's illuminating tinted moisturizer (spf20). I am also a light coverage person, but i started doing this to blend in a little bit more coverage which the amarte provided. I agreed with reviewers that the amarte alone was just not a very good match for my skin tone, but bended with the LM it was perfect, and I have loved the LM for years because it gives me that dewy but not too shiny look (I tend to be dry and dull) Well, I just ran out of the amarte, and am wondering if the clarityRx would be a good replacement for my system. I am also wondering why you no longer carry the amarte. Thanks so much for your help and advice.

Hi Ruth, I haven't yet used it with a sunscreen as it has been constantly raining here in NYC. But since it is a tinted product, it should go last - after sunscreen
