Colorescience Skin Calming Face Primer SPF 20- reader reviewed and recommended

As part of my daily beauty routine, I always use a primer before applying foundation or a tinted moisturizer. So to find one that delivers “prime” skin-perfecting benefits, plus an SPF of 20 for sensitive skin, is truly nirvana!

Colorescience’s Skin Calming Face Primer SPF 20 is wonderful for sensitive, rosacea-prone and aging skin because it is free of dyes, fragrance and perfume, talc, alcohols and emulsifiers. Because it is powered by antioxidants and minerals, cucumber and cactus extracts, it serves a dual purpose as a moisturizer/skin treatment and sunscreen. You get one or even two less steps to worry about and celebrate – especially when tackling the summer heat!

I love the silky, smooth formula that is tinted with a creamy neutral tone that glides seamlessly over my face and neck. Within seconds my skin is transformed to perfection; diffusing pores, lines, discoloration and any type of blemishes. This primed “canvas” effect can very well stand on its own, with no need to layer on foundation if desired. One or two pumps is all it takes and you’re fully covered. For myself, I only need to use one pump, which amply blankets my entire face and neck. The consistency is more concentrated than any other primer I have ever used, and with the tinted color – it really over-performs. It is light and airy; just a little thicker than a mousse or whipped formula. There is no tackiness and it doesn’t sit on top of the skin and look and feel artificial.

With this primer, unlike others that I have used, I am able to use less foundation and concealer. And less is always more! Especially now – with me being in my early 50s and wanting to achieve a flawless airbrushed appearance that looks as natural and light-reflecting as possible. Camouflaging skin enhancement vs. a heavy painted mask… that’s the ideal personified visage that I want to present to the world! I want to always look at least ten years younger, and maintaining a healthy, youthful appearance and texture of my skin is my No. 1 anti-aging priority. Blur the signs of aging and radiate natural beauty.

Colorescience products are designed to fuse the beauty of traditional makeup with the benefits and efficacy of skincare. The products that contain sunscreen are all mineral based, using titanium dioxide and zinc oxide. I tend to break out with cystic blemishes and whiteheads whenever I use skincare or makeup products that have chemical sunscreen ingredients, so I have to outright avoid them and make sure that I carefully read all ingredients before trying any product. Fragrance and certain pore-clogging oils and alcohols also can evoke sensitivity in my combination/oily, sensitive and aging skin. The minerals really work well to safeguard the skin from the sun – providing UVA and UVB broad spectrum protection – while nourishing, calming and protecting the skin.

I wholeheartedly recommend this “beautastic” product and would like to try other Colorescience products, such as the illuminating serums (bronze and champagne colors), anti-aging serum, and other formula primers. These other primers include skin brightening, line taming, bronzing, mattifying, skin neutralizer, etc. This company is on the right track with blending the line between “colore” and science. The quality and results make this a product worth trying – and it could very well become one of your favorites!

Thanks for the review Tina. I am a fan of the powder sunscreen by Colorescience. Good to know that there are other things in the line to explore.
