The lovely people at Truth in Aging sent me a bottle of Dermagenics Sun Savvy Solar Shield facial sunscreen ($45) back in September to sample. I'm always looking for a good sunscreen that works with my facial skin and was happy to try it out. I've always had problems with sunscreen making me break out on my face and have only found one that doesn't. I'm not sure exactly why, except I think most of them are too heavy for my skin and end up clogging my pores.

The facial sunscreen from Dermagenics proved to also make me break out.  It wasn't all over my face, but a few pimples for me are a lot because I almost never break out. I broke out after the first time using it, so I stopped using it until my skin cleared up and used it a second time. Once again, I broke out. I gave it a third try and the same thing happened. Dermagenics claims that it's hypoallergenic and non-comedogenic – but apparently just not for my skin. I gave "Sun Savvy" a whirl on my seven-year-old and ten-year-old; they didn't break out but, let’s face it, they're at the stage when their skin is perfect.

I liked the 10% zinc oxide and 5% titanium dioxide. Those are high percentages and they certainly kept my skin from burning while outside in and around town, and out at the ocean. The label says it's water resistant, but I didn't swim with it on so I can't speak to that. As with all products that use zinc oxide and titanium dioxide, I did have to rub it in for a minute, but it was one of the easiest sunscreens to rub in that I've encountered, and all the white went away. One of the times I wore it, I was at a picnic, where my friend complimented me on my skin saying, "your face looks good, it looks dewy."

I'll continue to use this on my chest and hands for the sun protection, but I can't say I would buy it with my own money. If your face isn't sensitive to sunscreen like mine is, this will offer you long lasting coverage and protection.
