Dermalogica was born in 1986, when UK-trained skin therapist Jane Wurwand developed a skincare line that would be available only from qualified skin therapy professionals taught at the International Dermal Institute, now the international gold standard for postgraduate skin and body training.
The vision behind this privately-owned company is to make products free of common irritants and ingredients that could cause breakouts (including lanolin, SD alcohol, mineral oil, artificial colors and fragrances).
All Dermalogica products are manufactured in the United States and have never taken part in animal testing.
Dermalogica professional skin therapists, who number over 75,000 in 48 countries, use the brand's unique Face Mapping skin analysis to decode a client's skin zone by zone and decide on a results-driven regimen.
Dermalogica has grown from a modest storefront in Marina del Rey to its current 145,000 square foot corporate headquarters in Los Angeles and locations worldwide in close to 50 countries.

Dermalogica's products are known for what they don't contain as much as what they do. Besides cheap fillers, you'll never find pore-clogging mineral oil, allergenic lanolin, comedogenic artificial colors, irritating artificial fragrances, drying S.D. alcohol, or carcinogenic formaldehyde. Nonetheless, the formulas are hardly organic and are not clear of controversial chemicals such as parabens
. They are, however, powered by results-based science, as well as derived from eco-safe sources and packaged in eco-friendly containers. Dermalogica's Shave Collection has been a huge hit with our male reviewers. Winning on six specific counts, the Soothing Shaving Cream is easy to apply, delivers a truly close shave, and leaves the skin free of blemishes and razor burns. The Daily Defense Block is not only loaded with extracts from licorice, grape seed
, wheat germ, and vitamin E, but also UV Smart Booster Technology in addition to octinoxate, ostisalate, and oxybenzone
). Likewise, the Environmental Control Deodorant is free of aluminum and full of plant-derived ingredients like clove, hyssop, coriander, and parsley seed. Overall, Dermalogica seems like a well-balanced blend of science and nature delivering professional-grade benefits to skin.
