Dark Circles, Puffy Eyes

I came across DermaRadiant Ageless Eyes ($38) when I was researching products that contain both Matrixyl 3000 and retinol and was intrigued enough to get hold of a tube to find out more about it. I doubt whether it will ever replace my wonderful Your Best Face eye cream, but it looks like a strong contender for a Five Best recommendation.

In addition to the anti-oxidant Matrixyl 3000 (made by combining palmitoyl oligopeptide and palmitoyl tetrapeptide-3) and retinol (vitamin A with a proven track record of speeding up skin renewal), there is also Eyeliss. If you want a product that really seems to work on de-puffing eyes and fading dark circles, Eyeliss seems to be it. Eyeliss is made up of hesperidine methyl chalcone, the dipeptide-2 and tetrapeptide-7 and DermaRadiant Ageless Eyes has the first two ingredients in the formula.

Another interesting ingredient is L-tyrosine. It took quite a while to work out what its role might be in an eye cream since it is mostly taken as supplement by bodybuilders or by people suffering with ADD. It turns out that it is an amino acid and a precurser to melanin and so helps protect the skin. There is also biotin, which is vitamin B7. However, I'm not sure what good it does because I read somewhere that it can't be absorbed by the skin.

I like the inclusion of montmorillonite, a mineral clay whose forte is to detoxify resulting in a clearer complexion. Amongst the botanicals, there is centella asiatica. This is also called gotu kola and it is a wound healer as well as an anti-inflammatory. Europhrasia officianalis is also known as eyebright - need I say more. Rosa canina is a good source of vitamin C.

Despite the couple of parabens, I took Ageless Eyes out for a test drive this morning. The initial impressions are good: nice texture that is neither too rich nor too whimpy, odorless, and the de-puffing action kicked into gear within about 15 minutes. I'll keep using it for a while and will report back.
