I love serums. In fact, they are my biggest weakness when it comes to buying cosmetics.

I am in my 60s and find using a good serum under my sunscreen for daytime and under my night cream makes a huge difference in the feel of my skin. It just seems to stay moist and soft.

I was delighted to be asked to review the Dermatouch Oxygen Serurm ($14 - $25.99), but unfortunately I was not very impressed with it.

Firstly the overpowering smell of citrus made me very wary (it is labeled as “natural fragrance”) as it made my eyes water and I had previously had a bad reaction to a lotion that smelled of citrus. Also, I found the serum to be on the thin side, and although it has some good ingredients, such as CoEnzyme Q10 and Alpha Lipoic Acid, I felt it sunk in too quickly and did not leave my skin feeling as soft as other serums I have used. In addition, the product did not play nice with my sunscreen, which rolled off in little balls when I tried to smooth it in!

On the whole, I was disappointed.

I recently purchased the Yes to Blueberries Intensive Skin Repair Serum ($19.99), the anti-aging range from the same company that produces the Yes to Carrots products. When compared to the Dermatouch serum, Yes to Blueberries felt much thicker and hardly had any fragrance; it left my skin feeling beautiful. I was so impressed that I went back and bought the eye cream and night cream in the same line – and I am really pleased with them. The company has not introduced its 30+ sunscreen here in Australia yet but this will be on my shopping list next when it becomes available.
