DHC, which stands for "Daikagu Honyaku Center, began as an educational translation company in 1972. After discovering an exceptional grade of olive oil from groves in Spain, the owner of the company saw the potential for growth and launched the DHC beauty enterprise in 1980

DHC is currently the #1 direct mail cosmetics company in Japan, leading the market in direct-to-consumer skincare, body care, makeup, and nutritious supplements.

Olive oil has become the foundation for DHC's full line of skincare products.

A few of DHC's core values: Virgin olive oil is one of the most superior substances on Earth for good health and great skin, science and nature should work in harmony, and the best skincare regimen requires four steps.

Company History/Recent Launches:

In May 2009, DHC launched Mascara Perfect Pro Double Protection, equipped with polymer tubing technology to give every lash long-lasting feathery coverage.

DHC USA added Scrub Face Wash to its offerings for men in April 2009.

Key Ingredients:

Olive oil

Green tea extract

Coenzyme Q10

Aloe vera

Almond oil

Soybean oil

Sodium hyaluronate

TIA's Take:

Olive oil, one of our Five Best botanicals for skin care, is a worthy ingredient on which to build a cosmetics empire. But what makes up the rest of the formulas matters more than the nourishing benefits of a single botanical. Unfortunately, parabens and/or phenoxyethanol crop up in nearly every product. Silicones and PEGs make a number of appearances as well.  Nonetheless, we appreciate DHC's transparency in displaying full ingredient lists and explaining their properties. Its sunscreen uses the physical blockers titanium dioxide and zinc oxide. Powerful emollients, like squalane, sodium hyaluronate, and glycerin, populate DHC's moisturizers. In addition to specialized Spanish olive oil, DHC commonly incorporates allantoin an a softening anti-irritant, alpha-arbutin as a brightening agent, and coenzyme Q10, caffeine, and Vitamin E as antioxidants. With DHC, you won't generally find heavy-duty anti-aging technology, but you will find prized plant-derived ingredients at a very moderate price point.
