Over the years, I have tried numerous skincare products from different brands to find out what work for my skin. The process was mostly trial and error but during the process I found few brands that I really like and always find myself going back to. One of them is Dr Dennis Gross Skincare. The brand is best known for effective at home peel, Alpha Beta Peel. The founder, Dr Dennis Gross is a board-certified dermatologist, dermatologic surgeon and skin cancer researcher. As you may have heard, his cruelty free products are formulated using cutting edge technology and nature to address various skin concern with visible results.

The brand's new product, Alpha Beta Exfoliating Moisturizer ($68 in the shop) is a multipurpose moisturizer that is loaded with seven alpha beta hydroxyl acids: lactic (derived from milk), glycolic (sugar cane), malic (fruit acid), mandelic (bitter almond), salicylic, citric, and tartaric (found in fruits such as grape and tamarind). The moisturizer is claimed to be an exfoliator as well moisturizer,  a two in one. How it work is that it exfoliates dead skin and replenishes with moisturizing ingredients such as squalane, sodium hyaluronate, saccharide isomerate, various plant extracts and ceramide.

A little about myself before I dive in any further. I am in my 40s and my skin is not sensitive. I have a combination skin that is on a dry side. Depending on the weather, I get some dry patches and flaky areas around my face. Unfortunately, I also have many fine lines, dullness, dark spots, melasma and sagging around cheeks.  I was hoping this product would make my skin soft and supple, smooth my fine lines and brighten my complexion.

DDG’s Exfoliating Moisturizer comes in a jar. The product is water based (first ingredient), very light weight and has a lotion like texture. A small amount easily spreads over the face and absorbs into skin quickly. It has a light cucumber smell that is refreshing and pleasant (cucumber extract adds antioxidant benefit as well as natural scent to the product). Although I am not new to peels, with seven acids included in one product, I was half expecting to have a stinging or tingling sensation. To my surprise, I experienced no discomfort. The product usage suggests to layer the moisturizer over Alpha Beta Peel for the best result. I tried this and I felt my skin was little dry so I added lightweight facial oil after the moisturizer. At night, I cleaned my face, used hydrating toner, serum and alpha beta moisturizer. This routine worked out well for me.

I also found that the moisturizer layers well under sunscreens and makeup. After four weeks of testing, my skin is notably soft and hydrated. The fine lines around my cheek are less visible. I didn't experience any adverse effects while using this product. My skin overall looks healthier and less congested.

The product is gentle and would be a great way to introduce exfoliation to those who are new to peels or for those who have sensitive skin. The product is also beneficial to those who are experienced with peel for additional skin renewing benefits.

The long list of ingredients include powerful antioxidant from plant extract such as rehmannia glutinosa root extract (Chinese foxglove), which is used in Chinese medicine and one study shows may regulate the epidermal growth factor TGF-beta1 and type IV collagen.

Lastly, as a reminder, use of product containing AHA may increase skin sensitivity to the sun, and it is recommended to use a sunscreen, wear protective clothing, and limit sun exposure while using product with AHA and also a week following after stop using the product.

Beause of the addition of undecane and phenoxyethanol, I was a little hesitant to fully recommend this product but, on the contrary, my experience with this Exfoliating Moisturizer was very good. I am happy with the result the Alpha Beta Exfoliating Moisturizer gave me at the end.

I can honestly say I really enjoy this product. I use it daily and ice seen some difference in my skin tone and also my face feels softer.
I really enjoy the smell of the moisturizer, it's light, and it reminds me of cucumbers with a hint of melon.
I would definetly recommend this product.
