I am 47 years old and I have been a Truth in Aging member for many years. Aging skin is my main concern, but I still have blemishes to contend with (which doesn’t seem fair after all these years!). My skin is hard to categorize: it is sensitive and tends toward redness and flaky dry areas in reaction to unpleasant products; at the same time, I have T-zone oiliness with frequent blocked pores in that area as well. And finally, I have red undertones with rosacea – like patchy redness near my nose and on my chin. So, with all these issues I have to be careful to keep my pores clean, but not stripped. Many anti-acne products are just too harsh for my skin. I confess that I have been a long-time Tazorac user, and it helps keep some of my blemishes under control without irritation (I must wean myself off this).

I had to time my testing of Envy Medical’s Skin Clarifying Acne Treatment Pads ($25 in the TIA shop) so that I was not out in the sun (I live in Washington state, so this was not difficult) and not using other acne products. I allowed a full eight weeks of use, averaging two times a week. The pads are convenient to use; the pads are generously saturated with the solution, which you swipe over your clean face and leave on. The solution is thin, dries fast, and has a pleasant odor that disappears when it dries.

According to Envy Medical’s website, these pads appear to be intended to follow a “focused extraction and infusion,” which I did not do. The pads contain 2% salicylic acid; the antioxidant witch hazel (to combat acne and acne-causing bacteria); aloe vera and menthol (to calm the skin); and “keratolytic action” to help maintain moisture [a medical dictionary defines this as “an agent that dissolves or breaks down the outer layer of skin (keratins)”]. The product is also alcohol free to avoid dryness.

I can recommend this for people with oily, breakout-prone skin, or skin that is not sensitive. I do think it will help clear your skin. For my extraordinarily sensitive skin, which tends to be too dry already, this product was just too irritating and drying. While I think the pads helped clear up some of my breakouts, I felt that my skin was too dried out after using this to justify continued use.
