FDA petitioned over talc and cancer link

March 26, 2008 Reviewed by Marta 0 Comments
I mentioned talc and its links to cancer only yesterday in a review of Exuviance Skin Care Foundation. Today I discovered that Senator Edward Kennedy and an alliance of cancer organizations have petitioned the FDA to regulate talcum powder use in cosmetics.

Citing 15 studies, the petition claims that regular use of cosmetic grade talc around the genitals causes ovarian cancer. Not the usual use for foundation, but cause to pause for thought.

It has been 14 years since the first studies linking talc to cancer came out and there are cosmetic grade starches that are a safe alternative.
