Each month I select one of the many regimen requests I receive to write up a "Marta’s RX" that may be useful for others. This one is based on an email from Stella:

“I am a 50-something with sensitive and combination skin. I would like to have guidance for a set of anti-aging products for morning and evening to boost collagen and give me tighter, firmer glowing skin. I also have acne scars on my face, for which I recently had SkinPen treatments that didn’t give me the results I wanted. Please help”.

Before launching in to my RX for firming, brightening, scar-reducing for someone with sensitive skin, I want to address acne scarring, SkinPen’s and sensitive skin. SkinPen is a micro-needling device. The theory is that as the skin is wounded by the needles, the skin perceives that it has undergone a trauma, and it starts to produce collagen to repair the wounds. Results for acne scarring is mixed at best and a dermapen can tear the skin, creating yet more scarring.

A better way, is a non-invasive form of exfoliation. For scarring, the regimen is simple: exfoliate and repair. I would suggest a retinol that your skin can tolerate. For Stella, who mentions she has sensitive skin, I recommend Medik8 r-Retinoate ($185 in the shop), which is specially formulated to be gentle but effective. Repair will be facilitated by some of the collagen-building serums mentioned below and will be greatly enhanced by red LED light – see Truth Vitality Lux Renew ($279 in the shop).

Now on to the firming, brightening suggestions. Starting your day with Dr. Dennis Gross Alpha Beta peels ($88 in the shop) will gently exfoliate the skin, tightening pores, and by exfoliating will give the skin a glow and enable collagen production.

You can follow with the Skin 2 Skin Anti-Sagging Renewal Serum ($76 in the shop), voted a 2017 community favorite for firming the skin with an all-natural, peptide-infused formula.

A repairing, collagen-boosting serum that will help with firming and scarring is Keracell Re-Cu-Perate Recovery Serum ($120 in the shop) with copper peptides and human stem cells.

Another approach is vitamin C, an important ingredient for this type of regimen because it is a precursor to collagen. Sensitive skins will appreciate that Transderma Vitamin C Serum ($175 in the shop) is formulated without preservatives, which are potential irritants.

A multi-tasking evening treatment and an alternative to a standalone retinol would be Dr. Dennis Gross Ferulic Acid & Retinol Brightening Solution ($88 in the shop) formulated for fading pigmentation, and scarring.

Finally, as a brightening, collagen booster, you can include Your Best Face Rescue Serum $145 in the shop), A highly concentrated serum, Rescue can give results in as little as 12 days.

Lisa, you raise a good point. I think my use of the word 'regimen' was confusing, implying that you would use all those products and that was not my intention. I have edited it a bit and, hopefully, its clearer

Wow, only over $1,000.00 for all those products - what a deal! REALLY? Seems a bit overkill to me. However, if you are suggesting to use just SOME of these products and not all, it would be helpful to clearly state that, and state in which order - for example, when do you put the Vitamin C on in this regimen or is it replacing another serum - kinda confusing. Thanks.
