I was clearly struggling a bit when I pulled together my Five Best for Under $100 a year ago. Well, we (me and the beauty industry) have come a long way in a short time and this time I felt spoiled for choice amongst some excellent anti-aging products that don’t stretch your flexible friend to breaking point. Last year, I mixed up moisturizers, creams and serums. But this year, I able to focus just on serums – and these are all ones that I have proudly used. In the meantime, enjoy The Five Best Serums for Under $100

LiftLab Lift & Fix High Potency Serum ($85 in the TIA shop) This is as well formulated as serums that sell for $150 plus. It has a unique active ingredient that is a protein from fish plasma that protects cells from death - hence its potential as an anti-aging ingredient. It is helpful red and crepey skin, broken veins and has some ingredients that focus on elasticity such as the amino acid methylsilanol hydroxyproline aspartate and is a protein that controls the elasticity of connective tissue fibers. Other unusual ingredients include antioxidant coccinia indica and eggplant. This and all the other LiftLab products are available to sample in the spring Discover With Marta collection. Osmosis Replenish ($40). This is an excellent product with one of my favorite anti-aging ingredients, astaxanthin. It is a powerful free radical scavenger and an efficient absorber of specific ultraviolet sunlight rays. One study claims it is 6,000 times more effective than vitamin C. A dominant ingredient is phosphatidycholine, which is said to create smoother skin, increase moisture level and support skin regeneration. Replenish is a great product at any price. Sevani Hyaluronic Wrinkle Defense Serum ($60 in the TIA shop). Sevani's meticulous attention to detail when it comes to choosing their ingredients and formulating them is even more impressive at its sensible price points. And they deliver results! Heather, our reviewer, reported: “two days after I started using it, we were talking and he literally stopped mid-sentence and said, “Hey, your skin looks really good. Are you doing anything different?” There’s not much more to say other than this serum has a fistful of heavy hitters including DMAE, Hyaluronic acid, MSM and resveratrol.

Prana Active Vitamin Lift Serum ($75 in the TIA shop).  With its DMAE, hyaluronic acid, apple stem cells and much more, this is a serum that punches above its weight. Although it is a thickish gel, it is not greasy and is easily absorbed. I found it plumping and firming with some fading of fine lines. Prana's pragmatic balance between natural botanicals and synthetic actives is very evident in the choice of two expression inhibiting ingredients: spilanthes acmella oleracea paracress extract and a peptide called Snap-8 (said to be 30% more effective than Argireline).

Nutra-Lift Rejuvenating A Nano Reneu ($46 in the TIA shop). Nutra-Lift has upgraded its Rejuvenating A Therapy to Nano Reneu with the inclusion of Golden Collagenine and the expression line inhibiting Snap-8. Golden Collagenine is a synthetic peptide that has been attached to gold particles. These act as the delivery system for a peptide that is supposed to have an impact on collagen production.  The formula still has Matrixyl 3000 at 5%, and Nutra-Lift recently upgraded the formula with growth factors. The addition includes glycosaminoglycans, a family of carbohydrates that help with the maintenance and support of collagen and elastin. Nutra-Lift has taken them one step further with Glyco-Repair, which has a plant derived epidermal growth factor (EGF) that is supposed to synthesize TGF-b1 and activine A, two tissue repair mediators. A light serum with a matte finish.

    Hi Lori,

Typically cosmetics should last 3 years. Can you describe the smell and tell us when last year you bought it. Does it have a batch number? With more information, we can take it up with the manufacturer. Please email customer service:

I have a bottle of Osmosis Replenish that I purchased last year. I did not use it more than a week because it caused my skin to break out. I recently decided to give it another try but it has a horrible odor... so bad that I can't use it on my face :( Does this surprise you? Maybe I'm expecting too long a shelf life.

I see you have posted the ingredients for Mad Hippie, but I was wondering if you might please post the ingredients for the Sevani, and in particular, for the Nutra-Lift. Thank You.
