Expression lines are a natural sign of aging and show – to quote the great, late Leonard Cohen – that we have laughed and cried and laughed all over again. They are also, less poetically, the result of squinting, frowning and pursing. There’s some complex muscular and synapse activity that goes into all this.
A super lipid, called a vesicle, releases a neurotransmitter to the synapses, sending a signal for the muscle to move. Three proteins, called the SNARE complex, are essential for the final stages of this process, which is known as exocytosis. A family of neuropeptides that can be found in our anti-aging beauty products intervene in this process in ways that have become increasingly effective.
I’ve become a recent convert to these ingredients and have been discovering new products that feature them. For the very first time in the history of Truth In Aging, I am giving my Five Best for expression lines recommendations.
ClarityRX Get Fit Serum
ClarityRX Get Fit Serum ($105.75 in the shop). This serum has had a real impact on my expression lines. This is a potent formula with no less than four neuropeptides Argireline, Syn-ake, pentapeptide-18 and SNAP-8. The two other peptides in the formula are collagen-boosting ones known as Matrixyl 3000. There’s hyaluronic acid and that’s about it. ClarityRX boasts that it formulates without extenders, fillers or bulking ingredients and Get Fit is a great example. I’m on my second bottle.
Deciem NIOD Fractionated Eye Contour Concentrate
Deciem NIOD Fractionated Eye Contour Concentrate ($68 in the shop). This is a wickedly good eye serum from a brand that formulates very intelligently. There are several neuropeptides for softening those expression lines including dipeptide diaminobutyroyl benzylamide diacetate, otherwise known as Syn-ake. Plus there’s pentapeptide-18 and acetyl hexapeptide-8. The peptides – which also include some collagen boosters – are encapsulated in a special delivery system to improve targeting. The long ingredient list is impressive with many actives that are new to me. This is a great firming eye serum that is part of my regimen.
Dawn Lorraine Pomegranate Lift Crème
Dawn Lorraine Pomegranate Lift Crème ($59 in the shop). This lovely cream combines naturals and actives for a moisturizing, anti-aging treat. Argireline and Syn-ake are the expression line inhibitors used and they are part of a well-rounded formula including collagen-building amino acids and vitamin C. Other anti-aging heavy hitters here are DMAE, an anti-sagging ingredient, and the antioxidant CoQ10. Pomegranate Lift Crème gives a nod to just about each key benefit for good skin, so there are also hydrating ingredients in the form of royal jelly, squalene and hyaluronic acid.
Sublime Beauty Ageless Line Smoother
Sublime Beauty Ageless Line Smoother ($51 in the shop). This is a wrinkle fighting serum that is focused on just three key active ingredients. One of them is the expression line inhibitor, Argireline (acetyl hexapeptide-4). The other two are the collagen-boosting peptide known as Matrixyl and moisturizing hyaluronic acid. For those who like their beauty products to be simple, yet effective.
ExPürtise Effective Anti-Aging Face Treatment
ExPürtise Effective Anti-Aging Face Treatment ($90 in the shop). A moisturizer that thinks that it is a serum. Reliable actives are in hefty concentrations and include the expression line reducing SNAP-8 peptide. Power peptides include Matrixyl 3000, Matrixyl Synth’6 and Syn-col, all of which boost collagen production. The formula has no nasties and only good things including all the essential vitamins, an organic botanical cocktail called Venuceane and NG Kombuchka, made from the fermentation of black tea and supposedly helpful for restoring radiance.
