I will frequently – and deliberately – test products without knowing the price as it is instructive to see whether I will be shocked or pleasantly surprised. It was definitely the latter with the Get Creamed Body (GCB) serum and moisturizer – after a month-long trial, I would have been happy to pay twice the price.
GCB’s About Face Serum (15ml/$34 in the shop) and About Face Moisturizer (100ml/$42 in the shop) are not just reasonably priced, they are good performers and use quality, natural ingredients including some excellent antioxidant plant extracts.
The serum, with hyaluronic acid as the dominant ingredient, is almost hydrating enough to use on its own, but I found I liked layering the Moisturizer with its faint lemony scent and lightweight texture. The serum is a denser lotion and custardy in color. It has a slight medicinal smell that dissipates fairly rapidly. In terms of actives, they are both packed with them.
Scullcap extract is an ingredient that we are gradually seeing more of in anti-aging cosmetics – and with good reason. A member of the mint family, it has nearly 300 compounds, many of which are antioxidant and shown to be effective against cancer. Joining it in GCB’s serum is marine collagen, extracted from scales or skin of fish, has antioxidant properties and can, according to a Chinese study on mice, increase thickness of the skin. Uva ursi leaf extract is a bearberry that contains arbutin, a skin whitener, and can inhibit melanin precursors.
The moisturizer doubles up on some of the serum’s actives and also has many more. This is a moisturizer that wants to be a serum when it grows up. There are seaweed peptides; yeast; vitamins K, C and E; DMAE; borage; and yarrow. Hydrating and soothing oils are from avocado, arnica and macadamia.
I find both products extremely enjoyable to use and they leave my skin hydrated and smooth. The rest of the line looks worth checking out as well – I was intrigued to read about the hair conditioner in Tiffany’s review.
Although GCB bills itself as a luxury brand, the packaging looks a little amateur and the full name – Get Creamed Body – is eccentric to say the least. But at the end of the day, it’s the product that counts and these are really good value for those looking for quality natural ingredients.
