My hair is straight and long and gets greasy easily; when it does, it is flat and quite unattractive. I’m always very hesitant about loading on the conditioner after I shampoo because I don’t want the extra grease or weight inhibiting any potential volume. But a friend of mine recently recommended Hugo Naturals French Lavender Conditioner because it is nourishing without being too heavy, and for its cost effectiveness.
It helps that the conditioner is given a low hazard rating of 2 by the Cosmetic Database
. Ingredients include comfrey root extract, aloe vera leaf, and rooibos leaf extract – all good moisturizers and the last is also an antioxidant. There’s also witch hazel
(that may add a little body to hair
), shea butter, vitamin E
, honeysuckle extract, and last but not least, French lavender flower oil. I found it funny that Hugo Naturals would use the very last ingredient as the name for its product, but Marta discovered that the company did the same thing with its Red Tea & Ylang Ylang Shampoo
I was intrigued by the addition of Retinyl palmitate
as an ingredient in the conditioner; I know that it can do great things for skin, but how can it help hair? I couldn’t find much on the subject, but a shampoo being sold at Sephora advertised its use of retinyl palmitate by claiming that it has antioxidant properties, acts as a scalp-conditioning agent and protects against moisture loss and environmental damage. Since I only use conditioner on the bottom of my hair (for fear of making it more oily), I supposed it won’t help condition my scalp. I don’t know how true the other claims about retinyl palmitate for hair are, either. But I will say that the conditioner has not made my hair the least bit greasy, despite the fact that it is quite thick in consistency. I wouldn’t say it’s anything special, but considering its ingredients contain nothing harmful (which I’ve found to be a rarity in conditioners) and it is keeping my hair soft and conditioned without weighing it down, I am pretty pleased.
