Introducing Hair Vitality Conditioner

Hair Vitality Conditioner 8.0 fl oz

I have never found a conditioner that I really loved. Perhaps that’s because I set the bar high: I want something that detangles my fine hair, creates volume, and encourages healthy hair growth, while reducing shedding. And of course it cannot have those nasty sulfates, silicones or preservatives. In the end, I made my own. Well, Your Best Face did. And I’ve called it Hair Vitality Conditioner ($44 in the shop).

Formulated to complement Hair Vitality Complex, our serum for encouraging hair growth and reducing shedding that has copper peptides as the active, Hair Vitality Conditioner harnesses some different, but potentially helpful ingredients.

Of course, adding in emu oil was a must. It is a great addition to Brow Vitality Complex and research has shown that it will wake up even dormant follicles. Emu oil is actually very close to human sebum and, hence, our skins will easily absorb and process its essential fatty acids. In addition to thickening the hair shaft, emu oil may inhibit 5 alpha reductase – a body chemical that is responsible for the conversion of testosterone into DHT.

So too might caffeine, although the research is a little contradictory. One study found that treating laboratory mice with caffeine helped reduce hair loss following radiation treatment. And another saw good results with a caffeine-enriched shampoo. Carrot seed, rich in vitamin A, E and beta carotene, can encourage hair growth as well as repair and prevent split ends.

Beta-sitosterol is typically used to reduce cholesterol, but for our purposes there is some evidence that it has a positive effect on male baldness. There is speculation that it blocks the action of 5 alpha reductase, an important enzyme in the hair loss process. And there’s vitamin B, in the form of DL panthenol.

Silcone-free conditioning and shine is provided by macadamia nut oil, which is lightweight and stable, and 22% of it is omega 7, a fatty acid. High in phosphoros and calcium, macadamia also contains phenolic compounds that are antioxidant.

Aspen bark extract has salicylic, which helps exfoliate the scalp and keep the follicles free of gunk, as well as being a preservative. On the natural preservative front, oil of ravensara has been used as well as a gentle form of thyme oil.

Getting a conditioner to do the things I wanted it do without compromising on chemicals (the detangler is the gentle guar hydroxypropyltrimonium chloride, and the conditioning agent stearamidopropyl dimethylamine) is no walk in the park). Like Goldilocks, Darrell Owens of Your Best Face went back and forth until he felt the formula was “just right.” After testing Hair Vitality Complex for a couple of months, I am pleased with the little extra lift and volume I get, the soft shine and – best of all – much less hair shedding.

We are still playing Goldilocks with the shampoo – watch this space.

Ingredients: Reverse Osmosis Water, Stearamidopropyl Dimethylamine, Ceteareth-6 Olivate, Meadowfoam Seed Oil, Polyquaternium-10, Guar Hydroxypropyltrimonium Chloride, DL-Panthenol (Vitamin B5), Macadamia Nut Oil, Citric Acid, Caffeine, Aspen Bark Extract, Emu Oil, Vitamin E, Alpha Bisabolol, Beta Sitosterol, Essential Oils of Yuzu, Carrot Seed, Thyme ct Linalool, Ravensara

have you tried the dove line for aging hair? this looks nice but honestly i cannot justify spending 44$ plus on a conditioner unless it actually grows hair.

i read a good housekeeping review that their second best choice was the dove line. has anyone tried it here?

Hi Tracy, the conditioner is suitable for all hair types. It seems to work well in both dry and humid conditions. I haven't tried it in tropical conditions - if other readers have, we would love to hear from you. In the meantime, Tracy, if you contact via email a sachet can be sent to you which will give you enough to try out once or twice.

Hi Teresa, I am so pleased to hear this. We're on the home stretch with the shampoo, a couple more tweaks and then we'll be in production - so a couple of weeks, I hope.

I've tried your new conditioner and I will certainly be buying it. This is the only conditioner I've been able to use after every shampoo. It doesn't weigh my hair down, but gives me shine and body. There is also a lessening in shedding. Thank you, Marta. Now when will we see the shampoo.

A couple of days ago, my hair stylist claimed to be amazed by the healthy condition of my hair. He remarked on how there was no courseness - even the gray hairs were strong and conditioned. When he asked what I've been doing for the past two months, I had to say that I've been using Hair Vitality Conditioner

Would love to try this product out. I've noticed with growing dismay that my ponytail has gotten smaller/thinner over the years and don't get me started on the amount of hair I see in the shower drain or bathroom floors!!

Well, it sounds like a dream...but will it work on my very fine but abundant, super curly, naturally greying hair? Now that would be a supreme test. I have to work extremely hard to get a comb or brush through my wet hair even after conditioning. I can leave the house with long tendrils of smooth loose curls and within 5 minutes of our Seattle humidity, it's a wild n' fuzzy animal! Help!

I would love to try your new conditioner, Marta! I have dry, frizzy, post- menopausal hair in desperate need of a good conditioner -- yours sounds amazing! Every conditioner I've used lately leaves my hair fly-a-way and full of!!

I would love to try this product. My hair is silver now and I have noticed more shedding and more curly/coarseness to my once straight with a slight wave hair.

I would love to try your conditioner. I was born with "bad" hair. Fine, wavy and dry looking....and now thinning after having to have a hysterectomy last year to remove a tumor.
    My hair needs some help!

Hi Marta - I would love to try your conditioner - I think I've tried every other brand in the TIA shop so am VERY qualified to give an opinion!!! It's also a subject very close to my heart as my tresses used to be my crowning glory - many thanks, Satajnuic

Marta, I would love to try this conditioner. Since hitting menopause I don't even know my own hair, like who does this belong to!! Shedding, dry and all over the place frizzy.
Hope it's safe for color-treated hair, lol. I use your other Vitality products so I figure the conditioner should help build the process.

I would also like to congratulate you on a really good product Marta. I loved my sample and will reorder it. BTW the last time I used it I tried a post shampoo boost of Guiness Stout (after reading about beer on your site) which I left in as a 'treatment' and then your conditioner! My hair was super shiny. Now for your shampoo...?!

This product sounds EXACTLY like what I've been looking for... what we've all been looking for :)

I would LOVE to test it out for the community. My post-pregnancy shedding is off the charts! And my long locks desperately need a good detangle.

I have so badly been wanting to try this. I was an original tester of the first trial hair growth product you put out and I was very surprised at how well it worked and how long it lasted. I really need something for my receding temples of doom.

I would also love to try it. I have thin, fly away hair that always needs a detangler. If that wasn't bad enough, I'm in my 50's & have coarse gray hair as well. I am currently using the Shielo leave-in spray detangler which i order from here but would love to try the Vitality conditioner. Thank you!

I'm using the sample in the latest DWM collection.
I have thick, frizzy curly hair. I've had problems keeping it moisturized since I started having it color processed - lightened 2 shades and highlighted. Cover those grays, yes I do!
This conditioner is the best I've used. And, I've used everything. I'm hoping for a shampoo, oil treatment and mayber a product with this line. I mix a small bit of mousse with a frizz/straightening product to define the curls. That's a hint!
    Will definitely buy again soon.

I would love to try the conditioner. I have curly, dry hair that tends to shed... A lot. The trick is finding something that moisturizers but doesn't weigh down the curls. Thanks!

I would love to try it! I am in 30s and after having my second child my hair has been shedding and has got thinner. The worst is that it lost its shine... I am desperately looking for something that can help.

I would love to try a $$$ conditioner! Will it be worth it for my slightly thinning 50+ hair?

  • February 2, 2013

Hi Kathy, it does not cleanse and so should be used after shampooing

Can I get clarification on the directions please. Should this be applied to freshly washed hair or does it cleanse as well as condition?

Julie I think you will be pleased with this product. I have used it a week now and my hair is still static free and it has been in the minus degrees here in Wisconsin. I love the body and shine it has and I will be ordering a bottle and looking forward to the shampoo!

Marta congrats on a perfect conditioner! I tried the sample in the recent DWM and am really happy with it. It's perfect for my fine hair. Great body, nice shine, no weigh down from overly heavy conditioners, and no winter static (yeah!). Can't wait to see how it does on curbing the hair fallout. But even without that benefit it's a new favorite for me. Really looking forward to trying the shampoo!!

Marta! This is exciting news, indeed. I've been floundering (once again) in just this department trying to find and settle on a singular hair conditioner that does what you've said Hair Vitality will do! I'm so in need! Recent stress and a rotation of conditioners have caused a rash of hair loss as I've never before experienced. I WILL be trying this product! ~jk

Kudo's to you Marta and YBF for another great product launch! I tried the sample in the new Discover with Marta collection, and I absolutely loved it. My hair is very fine and flyaway especially right now. Winter always presents static everywhere. I did not use any other styling product to see how my hair looked and I was very impressed. My hair was very full with no flyaways and so shiny.
Thank you for always looking to create awesome quality products!
