Hair Vitality Conditioner 8.0 fl oz

Introducing Hair Vitality Conditioner

I have never found a conditioner that I really loved. Perhaps that’s because I set the bar high: I want something that detangles my fine hair, creates volume, and encourages healthy hair growth, while reducing shedding. And of course it cannot have those nasty sulfates, silicones or preservatives. In the end, I made my own. Well, Your Best Face did. And I’ve called it Hair Vitality Conditioner ($44 in the shop).

Formulated to complement Hair Vitality Complex, our serum for encouraging hair growth and reducing shedding that has copper peptides as the active, Hair Vitality Conditioner harnesses some different, but potentially helpful ingredients.

Of course, adding in emu oil was a must. It is a great addition to Brow Vitality Complex and research has shown that it will wake up even dormant follicles. Emu oil is actually very close to human sebum and, hence, our skins will easily absorb and process its essential fatty acids. In addition to thickening the hair shaft, emu oil may inhibit 5 alpha reductase – a body chemical that is responsible for the conversion of testosterone into DHT.

So too might caffeine, although the research is a little contradictory. One study found that treating laboratory mice with caffeine helped reduce hair loss following radiation treatment. And another saw good results with a caffeine-enriched shampoo. Carrot seed, rich in vitamin A, E and beta carotene, can encourage hair growth as well as repair and prevent split ends.

Beta-sitosterol is typically used to reduce cholesterol, but for our purposes there is some evidence that it has a positive effect on male baldness. There is speculation that it blocks the action of 5 alpha reductase, an important enzyme in the hair loss process. And there’s vitamin B, in the form of DL panthenol.

Silcone-free conditioning and shine is provided by macadamia nut oil, which is lightweight and stable, and 22% of it is omega 7, a fatty acid. High in phosphoros and calcium, macadamia also contains phenolic compounds that are antioxidant.

Aspen bark extract has salicylic, which helps exfoliate the scalp and keep the follicles free of gunk, as well as being a preservative. On the natural preservative front, oil of ravensara has been used as well as a gentle form of thyme oil.

Getting a conditioner to do the things I wanted it do without compromising on chemicals (the detangler is the gentle guar hydroxypropyltrimonium chloride, and the conditioning agent stearamidopropyl dimethylamine) is no walk in the park). Like Goldilocks, Darrell Owens of Your Best Face went back and forth until he felt the formula was “just right.” After testing Hair Vitality Complex for a couple of months, I am pleased with the little extra lift and volume I get, the soft shine and – best of all – much less hair shedding.

We are still playing Goldilocks with the shampoo – watch this space.

Ingredients: Reverse Osmosis Water, Stearamidopropyl Dimethylamine, Ceteareth-6 Olivate, Meadowfoam Seed Oil, Polyquaternium-10, Guar Hydroxypropyltrimonium Chloride, DL-Panthenol (Vitamin B5), Macadamia Nut Oil, Citric Acid, Caffeine, Aspen Bark Extract, Emu Oil, Vitamin E, Alpha Bisabolol, Beta Sitosterol, Essential Oils of Yuzu, Carrot Seed, Thyme ct Linalool, Ravensara

have you tried the dove line for aging hair? this looks nice but honestly i cannot justify spending 44$ plus on a conditioner unless it actually grows hair.

i read a good housekeeping review that their second best choice was the dove line. has anyone tried it here?

Hi Tracy, the conditioner is suitable for all hair types. It seems to work well in both dry and humid conditions. I haven't tried it in tropical conditions - if other readers have, we would love to hear from you. In the meantime, Tracy, if you contact via email a sachet can be sent to you which will give you enough to try out once or twice.

Hi Teresa, I am so pleased to hear this. We're on the home stretch with the shampoo, a couple more tweaks and then we'll be in production - so a couple of weeks, I hope.

I've tried your new conditioner and I will certainly be buying it. This is the only conditioner I've been able to use after every shampoo. It doesn't weigh my hair down, but gives me shine and body. There is also a lessening in shedding. Thank you, Marta. Now when will we see the shampoo.
