I was so excited to try iS Clinical Copper Firming Mist ($38). A mist is a great way to get additional active ingredients to the skin without having to layer on yet another cream. And one with my favorite ingredient, copper, had me at hello. Plus iS Clinical is a very interesting skincare company with deceptively simply, yet very cleaver formulations.
After a month of use, Copper Firming Mist has more than lived up to my expectations. I anticipated that it would be hydrating and hoped that it would be a beneficial addition to my arsenal of wrinkle reducers. What I didn’t expect was that it would live up to its name and actually be firming. Yet it does – so much so that I gave it a special mention in my recent Five Best for Sagging Skin round up.
I use iS Clinical Copper Firming Mist at night during or right after my Truth Vitality Lux Renew ultrasound and LED sessions. I close my eyes spritz a couple of times on my face and then neck (I am fairly liberal as the 4oz bottle is pretty generous for the price). I follow with a serum and my eye cream.
Copper PCA is the copper salt of pyrrolidone carboxylic acid and one thing it is very good at is drawing moisture from the air. Hence this mist is very hydrating. It also helps control sebum. Another reason to feel grateful for this mist on a warm and sticky summer evening. Best of all copper is a collagen booster and that is where the firming part comes in. Cleveland Clinic points out that studies have shown copper peptide promotes collagen and elastin production and also acts as an antioxidant. It also promotes production of glycosaminoglycans.
Research has shown that copper and red LED light make a powerful combination (see my article on copper peptides) and so it’s a great idea to spritz with iS Clinical Copper Firming Mist before or immediately after an LED session.
This mist also contains resveratrol, an antioxidant that is commonly extracted from grapes. Here it has been derived from a yeast ferment as a small molecule that is easily absorbed by the skin. iS Clinical has also included antioxidant botanicals - cola nitida from the kola nut; yerba mate (which has enough vitamins to sustain life); and paullinia cupana extract, a type of caffeine.
There isn’t much to dislike, except the preservative disodium EDTA. And then there’s just so much to love about this simple, but antioxidant rich, hydrating and firming formula. Try it sometime, otherwise you’ll be wondering what you’ve mist (sorry!).
