It Cosmetics Bye Bye Under Eye 0.28 fl oz

I’ve got pretty good, and for the most part, blemish- and wrinkle-free skin for a 38-year-old. But the bane of my existence has to be the terrible dark circles beneath my eyes! No matter what concealer I use, I’m never truly satisfied. Six beauty awards (and some pretty big claims) got me excited when TIA asked me try out It Cosmetics Bye Bye Under Eye concealer ($32). And I have to say, it didn’t disappoint.

Jamie Kern, creator of It Cosmetics, worked with the leading plastic surgeons in Brazil (Brazil is ranked in the top five countries in the world for cosmetic surgery) to develop this product. The formula was supposedly used by post-surgery patients to conceal facial bruising and swelling on the face and body, which is a pretty impressive claim.

With ingredients like vitamins K, A, C, E and collagen, I found it to be very moisturizing for my normal skin type (someone with oily skin could find it to be too greasy). I’m hazarding a guess that the role of collagen in this product aids in the smooth application and finish. From what I’ve learned about topical collagen creams, the protein molecules are too large to penetrate the skin’s outer layer. I take hydrolysed collagen tablets, types 1 and 3 daily and can’t sing their praises enough. I’ve seen vast overall improvements in my hair, skin and nails since using them. My face is also plumper, especially in the eye area. Interestingly enough, all of these results disappear rapidly when I stop taking the tablets.

But I digress… The neutral medium shade is just right for my olive/tan skin tone (I like my under-eye concealer as light as possible) and I think it will suit most. I found the coverage to be excellent and the application smooth. The consistency will take some getting used to, as it’s quite unique. It’s very thick and creamy, almost stretchy, and highly pigmented, which means a little goes a very long way. I can’t stress this enough! Being an avid YSL Touche Eclat user, whose consistency is the polar opposite to Bye Bye Under Eye, my first application was a disaster! You really do only need a pin drop for both eyes – believe me.

According to It Cosmetics, this waterproof formula will “stay put no matter what”... and I found that with proper prep and prime (you need to use a good, hydrating eye cream prior to use, and I set it with loose powder), it did just that. I love the way it didn’t go dry and flaky or crease like most concealers by the end of the day, which again, may not be suitable for an oily/combination skin type. It didn’t need touching up halfway through my day/evening, unlike the other concealers in my makeup bag! I didn’t have any blemishes to cover at the time so, I can’t comment on how it works in that department – but it did cover my tattoo impressively for a non-camouflage concealer.

I will definitely continue to use Bye Bye Under Eye – it could be the answer to my prayers! Although it does take time to apply, the finish was considerably brighter and more flawless than most products I’ve come across. I highly recommend it to anyone who suffers from redness or bad dark circles but, as I said, I don’t think it’s suitable for all skin types.
