jane iredale Just Kissed Lip & Cheek Stain- reviewed and recommended

Reviewed by Preksha June 9, 2013 10 Comments

Pros

Natural ingredients; universally flattering shade for lips and cheeks

Cons

Flimsy packaging
Recommended as a hydrating lip and cheek stain for all skin tones

It’s not often that a multi-purpose makeup product will really wow me. But after having tried jane iredale Just Kissed Lip & Cheek Stain ($25) in Forever Pink, I am nothing short of very impressed.

Looking at this lip stain, it looks like a light coral shade, perhaps worrying for ladies who are not comfortable with a bright coral pucker. To get an idea of its opacity, I first applied this product to my hand. I was relieved to see that it glides on sheer with just the slightest hint of color (but also slightly disappointed as the last thing I need is yet another sheer lip gloss).

No sheer pout here, though! When I applied the stain to my lips, I was beyond pleasantly surprised. Just Kissed made my lips look rosy and luscious by enhancing my natural lip color. And for someone who is always concerned about smearing her lipstick, this product brought my worries down to zero.

I was a bit hesitant to try this product on my cheeks. I mean, who wouldn’t want dewy skin. But is that possible with something that has the texture of a lip gloss? It seems so! Forever Pink glides easily on cheeks, and with a little bit of blending with my fingers, I had a subtle and dewy rosiness to my cheeks, without any tackiness.

Marta explained to me earlier this week how as we age, our skin and lips tend to lose color, giving the appearance that they are thinner. Just Kissed works with your skin’s chemistry to add “zest to your zipper,” as we like to joke at TIA offices.

I have consistently been impressed with jane iredale’s products. From Glow Time BB Cream ($48 in the shop) to Longest Lash Lengthening and Thickening Mascara, I find that jane iredale’s makeup is one of the best cosmetics lines out there. There is almost nothing to dislike in the formulas.

However, I have one big complaint: the packaging is terrible. The tube feels fragile and flimsy, almost like it might break if not handled delicately. While this is something that can usually turn me off from a product, I have decided to turn the other (rosy) cheek. I’ve become quite the jane iredale addict.

I have always liked the idea of multi-use products and (like several of the others who have commented) I used to use a cheek/lip tint stain 20 years ago that I was quite fond of. As Jane Iredale is one one of my favorite cosmetic brands, I'd be interested in trying this lip and cheek stain out as well, with the hopes of finding a great replacement for that once-loved product of years past.

I love stains!! I remember back in the 70's when it was liquid in a bottle with a little brush. I liked it so much then and would love to try the Just Kissed Lip & Cheek stain now
    Thanks for the opportunity!!

I will order this one.....often times unless they are in fact a deeper rose color the apricot-y ones turn orange on me, but I'm willing to try this one. Years ago Bare Essentials made a rose lip stain in a container just like this one and I LOVED it, in fact I still have it although there's nothing left in the tube. The tube size is so ergonomically correct! Hoping I will like this just as much.

Coaxed by Preksha, I gave this a try. Lord knows that my zipper could do with some zest, but bright colors can make my pout look even thinner. The bubble gum color put me off initially, but as soon as I smeared on this lip stain I was so happy. It seems to go a little darker than my natural lip color and I love that it is a stain not a gloss. But what a stain... there's a little shine, nice creamy feel and it stays on through lunch! A winner.
