jane iredale PureLash Extender & Conditioner

Our Rating: 3 stars

Jane Iredale’s website states that applying a single coat of PureLash Lash Extender & Conditioner ($16.50) before mascara will help strengthen, lengthen and thicken your lashes. The claim is that the product provides a much-needed step towards unbelievable lashes. Here’s my take:

As for whether it creates fuller lashes, a lot of this is totally dependent upon your lashes  their condition, thickness or sparseness, and length. My lashes, thanks to Marta and AQ Lash ($135 in the shop), are pretty darn good at this point.

When I began using this conditioner, I immediately found it difficult to determine how much to apply to lashes, how long to wait before applying mascara and what to do if it dried too much before applying mascara. It wasn’t rocket science, but it began to feel something like it. Even with practice, I had some trouble determining on a day-to-day basis, just how much (or how little) was needed to achieve the results that previous jane iredale reviewers received. I couldn’t consistently get it to work well each and every time I applied it.

I watched the instructional video that’s posted on the website, practiced applying it and used it daily with my makeup regimen for work. I also played around with it on the weekends all by itself. Truthfully, some days my lashes looked thick and full, other days, not so much. I’m not sure if that was because of the amount that I applied or the mascara, so I changed my mascara every three days. The last week of the month I simply stayed with my mainstay, Bare Escentuals Buxom Lash Mascara ($19), and worked with it daily along with the product to see if the results were any better or different. Out of each mascara I tested with PureLash, Bare Escentuals Buxom, my fave, complemented it the best. I didn’t need to touch them up later in the day at all.

So did my lashes feel lush? I never felt my lashes were lush to any inordinate degree or at least enough to brag about. When I did manage to get my lashes in sync with the product and the mascara, they were definitely fuller looking and longer appearing.

A few more claims that jane iredale makes about this product is that it stops lashes from drying out or splitting, allows lashes to grow to their fullest potential, and may even encourage extra growth. My verdict is still out on all of these declarations, though my lashes definitely look better with the product on  when I apply it correctly, that is! Much better!

Overall, I like the product. I am not sure that I would invest in it on a consistent basis, but it is definitely something many women may want in their regimen.
