After reading Marta and Copley’s glowing reviews of John Masters Organics (Mandarin Maximum Moisture
and the vit C serum
), I was more than curious to try the brand out myself. In fact, being such an organic groupie, I’m surprised I hadn’t experienced John Masters until this past week. Thankfully I can sleep at night knowing their extension to skincare wasn’t back in the Dark Ages. I decided to try the Jojoba & Ginseng Exfoliating Face Cleanser ($25) as ginseng happens to be one of my favorite ingredients.
I agree with Copley regarding hair products attempting to capitalize on skincare but often getting it oh so wrong, so I was intrigued and quite impressed that John Masters remained faithful to using purely certified organic ingredients. John Masters adheres to strict guidelines with his organic ingredients, striving to create a standard for the cosmetic industry. There are no sodium lauryl sulfates, parabens, DEAs, MEAs or Teas, petro chemicals, artificial fragrances or colors. Even all plant oils are cold pressed and not heat distilled (which counteracts the therapeutic benefits).
One of the highlights of the Jojoba & Ginseng Exfoliating Face Cleanser is that it’s gentle enough to use every day (provided you have somewhat thicker skin like me). There’s great herbal extracts and essential oils that offer a refreshing cleanse, like the ginseng, which works double-time as tonic action. Ginseng is also completely revitalizing (I personally love it both topically and via tea). Speaking of roots, an interesting, notable ingredient is the radish root, which John Masters claims protects against harmful bacteria. Considering radish root is packed with vitamin C, I only see positive results. There’s also bearberry, which offers protection against sun damage, fighting free radicals and known to have brightening properties (in fact, this is its stronghold, as the extract is used in several skin lightening products).
The jojoba beads used here are gentle but effective enough to exfoliate, stimulating micro circulation. It has more of a pasty texture than other face cleansers I’ve used, which enhances the softening aspect. The scent of the product is also quite overwhelmingly satisfying. When I first applied the Jojoba & Ginseng Exfoliating Face Cleanser, I was taken aback by the powerful scent. I let it sit in my hands and I inhaled the stimulating and calming oils. Not very typical of an exfoliating cleanser I’ve ever come across.
