My face may have found its perfect cleansing match. Ever since John Masters Organics caught my eye back in March with their Exfoliating Face Cleanser, I knew the relationship was going to work out. At the time, I didn't realize John Masters had just launched a new face wash particularly for oily/combination skin: the bearberry oily skin balancing face wash. For a daily cleanser, it sounded ideal and I regret not having picked it up sooner.

Like all John Masters Organics products, Bearberry Oily Skin Balancing Face Wash ($22) uses certified organic ingredients and have natural preservatives. No parabens, SLS, petro-chemicals or synthetic fragrances. What's beautiful about the product is that it comes in a pump container, and with one squirt, a light foam of bliss is released (no fuss with tubes or gel messes... it's foam!) It's a gentle and soft lather and your face is squeaky clean after, with a very invigorating, fresh scent to it.

One of the main ingredients is willowbark extract. From the package, it says they get their willowbark from the Swiss Alps. I'm not sure why this is particularly important: maybe it's the high altitude that gives it more potency, or maybe it's just romantic. Either way, willowbark is extremely beneficial for oily skin as it's an astringent and antiseptic. High concentrations of it have demonstrated antimicrobial activity, and its one of the better ingredients for balancing and toning skin, helping control sebum production.

The organic bearberry extract is a great ingredient for also helping in sebum production. Traditionally, its known mostly for helping discoloration and working as an astringent. It has antioxidant and antibacterial properties as well. (Bonus!)

There's tons of beneficial oil-fighting extracts (20 of them!) that actually help combat oil production. The concoction creates this powerhouse astringent to help control the oil and its enough so that it doesn't strip your natural oils. The Bearberry Oily Skin Balancing Face Wash clears mucho debris (with the alpha hydroxy acids, expect the unclogging of pores... AHA also helps expedite the skin's natural process of shedding surface dead cells, so exfoliation is another great quality). There's a burst of extracts like orange, lemon, peppermint, lavender, spearmint, pink grapefruit. . . the list goes on (see ingredients below) and introduces a wonderfully scented product that works great for oily and combo skin.

Its very gentle, so those who have sensitive skin will most likely fall for it like I did.
