Juice Beauty Stem Cellular Repair

April 12, 2011 Reviewed by Marta 12 Comments

Juice Beauty organic skincare products have always been well received by Truth In Aging reviewers. I used to love the Green Apple Body Peel, which was great at keeping bacne at bay, Claire loved the multi-tasking body lotion with SPF and the Antioxidant Serum is a good organic choice especially for someone with oily skin. The classic and best-selling Green Apple Peel ($45).  Now Juice Beauty is upping the anti-aging ante of the range with a moisturizer and an eye cream based on apple stem cells and vitamin C.

Juice Beauty’s Stem Cellular Repair Moisturizer ($60) and the Stem Cellular Repair Eye Treatment ($45) are based on a proprietary blend of fruit stem cells taken from apple and grape buds, lemon bark, and apple, grape and lemon juices.

Fruit (especially apple) derived stem cells are one of the ingredients du jour, as Lisa mentioned only yesterday in her Nutra-Lift review. Silly myths about rare Swiss apple trees notwithstanding, there isn’t much information on whether apple stem cells can really help aging skin. To give them the benefit of the doubt though, they are too new have much of a scientific pedigree and may earn one in the years to come. Juice Beauty’s own trials claim that a vast majority of users saw “significant improvements”.

What makes plant derived stem cells so enticing is that they live forever. According to Wikipedia, "plant stem cells never undergo aging process but immortally give rise to new specialized and unspecialized cells, and they have the potential to grow into any organ, tissue, or cell in the body". British scientists found that plant stem cells were much more sensitive to DNA damage than other cells. And once they sense damage, they trigger death of these cells. Even so, harvesting their potent power is tricky; plant stem cells have to be taken from the meristem and some researchers concede that they aren’t that easy to locate.

There is research behind some of Juice Beauty's other ingredients, such as borage and linseed (flax), however. Researchers from Germany and France claim that the omega-3 and omega-6 (fatty acids) in flax and borage oils prevent skin from roughening and scaling. Evening primrose also has fatty acids and more than 20 randomized, controlled studies have evaluated the effects of gamma linoleic acid on skin, and the majority of data suggests that GLA application enhances the epidermal barrier.

I haven’t yet tried Juice Beauty’s Stem Cellular Repair Moisturizer or the Stem Cellular Repair Eye Treatment, but plan to in the coming weeks. In the meantime, I I have been testing Green Apple Peel and like it. The full strength version that I was given is a bit too strong for my face, but is a great exfoliator for the sun-damaged skin on my neck and I appreciate the refreshing apple scent and the mostly organic ingredients (with nothing to dislike apart from phenoxyethanol and sodium hydroxide).

I have been using the JB Stem Cellular Eye Treatment for 6-8 months, it has helped with my crows feet and has also made my eyelashes grow like crazy, it hasn't much helped with puffiness under the eye.

    Hi Marta,

I would love to try the eye treatment. I am currently using the peel, serum and stem cellular repair moisturizer and happy with all of them. The eye treatment is next on my list -- I think this is a great line of affordable products.

I would love to try this as I already love the Peel and the Antioxidant serum! Their products are made with integrity and extreme attention to detail. My crepey eyes are of a concern as I age (and FIGHT it)

This is a great deal. I ordered a $5 item (SPF 20 tinted mosturizer) and get the $36 full size Organic Facial Moisture Concentrate for free. I will also receive two other samples. So for $11.00 total ($6.00 ground shipping), I really made out! Thanks, Marta!
