Whenever (and I have to say it hasn’t been often) I’ve been tempted by those lotions and potions that promise to beautify and even boost breasts, I’ve been forced to conclude: “it’s a bust!” One exception was Pevonia's Ligne Esthebuste and even that lost my interest after a while and remains half used in the product cemetery in my bathroom. Unlike my (as Oksanna put in a comment) high maintenance face, my breasts get no more than a dab of whatever body lotion is going - until, that is, a product called Breast SOS ($45) by La Isha was sent to me to try out.

Initially, I approached Breast SOS without a great deal of enthusiasm. La Isha is a beauty line whose products are based on essential oils. Now, I’ve not found many products dominated by essential oils that I have liked. Mostly they are too oily, strong smelling and not especially effective. I’m glad that I put my prejudices to one side because I am loving Breast SOS and I actually look forward to using it.

One of the things that my inner repressed hippie likes about Breast SOS is that I'm rubbing my breasts with cannabis. Hempseed oil is a major source of gamma-linolenic acid (GLA), a fatty acid. GLA is an essential component for the structure, elasticity and lipid barrier of the epidermis. Studies have shown cannabis to be a great cure for eczema and other skin irritations as well as helping skin, nails and hair grow. Sorry people, we are talking dietary and topical forms, not inhaled.

Plenty more fatty acids are provided by rosehip oil (which is over 70% fatty acids) and there’s antioxidant pomegranate and anti-inflammatory tamanu. This blend of oils is extremely well-behaved in that massages into the skin nicely, feels slightly warming and is absorbed without leaving any kind of lingerie staining residue. After several weeks, I’d say my breasts look more supple and perhaps (although this is doubtless wishful thinking) a little perkier.

Breast SOS turned out to be a lovely way to give myself a bit of TLC and I intend to keep on using it in preparation for summer’s plunging necklines (assuming rain-sodden New York ever sees the summer this year). La Isha claims that it gets rid of the creases formed by lying on one’s side in bed – if so, and this is an alternative to silly inventions like the Kush , La Isha will truly have done women a service.

Set up by Sharon Gnatt Epel after her son was poisoned by chemicals in a rafting trip and was cured by essential oil concoctions, La Isha aims to provide an all-natural anti-aging solution for women over 35 as well as having a cool mission statement “dedicated to the empowerment, education, well being and independence of women everywhere”.
