La Vie Celeste Illumine Under-Eye Concealer

Brightens dark circles

Difficult to work with, limited shades

Recommended for those with oily skin rather than dry

My latest obsession when doing my makeup is highlighting; I absolutely love the look of illuminated, radiant skin. However, it’s hard to find a product subtle enough to add that glow without making you look like a disco ball, especially if you are concerned about glitter or shimmer enhancing large pores, fine lines, and wrinkles. Brightening concealer is a good alternative to shimmery powder or liquid highlights, so I wanted to give La Vie Celeste’s new Illumine Under-Eye Concealer ($30) a try.

As soon as I opened the product to use it, I was surprised by how stiff it was. It is extremely dense, so I was worried that it would be too drying for my already dry skin, especially around the delicate under-eye area. I didn’t get much product after swirling my finger on top of the concealer because it was so hard, so I had to warm it up for at least 15 seconds before applying. Personally, I prefer liquid or creamy concealers because I find them easier to blend and more comfortable to wear. This concealer didn’t blend out terribly, but it wasn’t up to my standards. Perhaps those with especially oily eyelids will appreciate this texture more than I did.

Another issue I had with this product is the disappointing shade range. LVC currently offers only two shades: Light-Medium and Medium-Dark. I understand that this is a fairly new product and perhaps more shades will come out soon, but I wish LVC had considered darker skin tones upon releasing this concealer.

However, LVC did deliver on its brightening and illuminating claims for this product. It is pretty sheer, so I used it over my liquid concealer and I instantly looked more awake and my dark circles were much less apparent. Because of this, and because there is a shade complementing my skin tone, I’ll continue to use it on days when my dark circles really need it. I wish it were easier to work with because, if so, LVC Illumine would become my new go-to concealer.

I'm sorry you didn't have a great experience with this, but I had a completely different experience. I just got this a week ago and found the product to be creamy, not stiff, extremely easy to blend, and very hydrating all day. This is my holy grail concealer, though I would call it a miracle eye beautifier. See my product review for details.
