I was delighted to be selected to review the Lumavera Skin Perfection Peel ($60). I have not used facial peels before and was a little nervous about what it would do to my skin.
Lumavera claims this is “an extra gentle peel for all skin types” and that it “can be used for the most sensitive skins. Furthermore, the website notes Lumavera products “contain NO parabens, sulfates, petrochemicals, harsh synthetic chemicals, artificial colors or fragrances.” With some further digging, I also found that Lumavera doesn’t test their products on animals.
Lumavera recommends that one use the Skin Perfection Peel three to four times per week – this translates to every other day, which was how I used it. Faithfully for four weeks, I used it every other evening after washing my face. I love the way it made my skin look and feel. There is no question this product beautifully lived up to its claims and did so without leaving my skin feeling sensitive or irritated, which were my initial concerns. My skin was exfoliated, looked smooth, and felt great – my face glowed! This product is just what I could have hoped for with one caveat: the fragrance. Unfortunately, the fragrance was overwhelmingly perfumed, and I could still smell it even after I rinsed it off my face.
I should note that I am a 50-year-old Caucasian woman with sensitive skin prone to milia. I experience the occasional, but debilitating migraine, and I am quite sensitive to scents. In fact, I don’t use products with artificial scents if I can help it and unfortunately the Lumavera Skin Perfection Peel has a very strong fragrance. Even after it was washed off, my face smelled like perfume to me (luckily it did not cause any migraines). While this is my only complaint about this product, it is an important one and will prevent me from purchasing it again. However, if they ever remove the fragrance, I will be among the first to purchase it as it did a wonderful job of exfoliating my skin and left it soft, smooth and looking fantastic!
