Luxtural Sophisticated Veil- reader reviewed and recommended

Pros

Very moisturizing and leaves skin feeling extra smooth; paraben free

Cons

Contains silicones
Recommended as an effective hydrator, especially for 30- and 40-somethings

When I was asked to test Luxtural Sophisticated Veil ($276), I immediately checked out the manufacturer’s website and Googled the product. After a bit of research, I concluded that I had to try this serum and see if it was as marvelous as its users claimed.

Luxtural has just three products in its arsenal: Mystique Fountain (hydrating mist), Silk Premonition (moisturizer) and Sophisticated Veil (serum). Each product is meant to be used together, in that specific order, though I only had the opportunity to test one. The reason for applying the serum last is that “in addition to its anti-aging and moisturizing benefits, this serum creates a sheer veil on your skin that smoothes it, protects it and prevents it from loss of hydration.”

According to the patent application, the base of the products are pure rainwater from the Pacific Ocean, collected above ground in order to avoid any impurities (for detailed information, see patent application). Luxtural claims that it chose each ingredient “for its effectiveness, quality, benefits and safety.” The list of ingredients is as long as your arm (well, at least if your arm is about six inches long…) and, apart from the somewhat dubious cyclopentasiloxane and dimethicone crosspolymer, a lot of them are beneficial. Seaweed, rosa rubiginosa seed oil, evening primrose oil, coumarin, pomegranate extract, portulaca extract, cucumber oil, sweet almond oil as well as a whole bouquet of essential oils for aromatic purposes are all included.

I’ve now used this product for four weeks – mornings and evenings, in a regimen that looks like this:

  1. Cleanser: Clinique cream cleanser (morning) and Stemulation Micro Derm Scrub (evening)
  2. Eye serum: Retrospect Flash Firm Eye Gel
  3. Anti-wrinkle serum: ReLuma Skin Illuminating Anti-aging Serum
  4. Moisturizer: Royal Nectar Moisturizing Face Lift (morning) and Royal Nectar Face Mask (evening)
  5. Face serum: Luxtural Sophisticated Veil

Note that when I began the test, I excluded my beloved ReLuma Skin Illuminating Anti-aging Serum ($145), but after a week I had to reintroduce it, since Sophisticated Veil wasn’t keeping my wrinkles in check (in particular, the naso-labial grooves).

Luxtural’s Sophisticated Veil has a pleasing fragrance and when you massage it onto the face it really feels super-luxurious (I’m afraid, though, that the “gliding-on-super-smoothly” may be due to the silicones in the formula). It is aptly named, however, since it really feels like your face is swathed in a sheer veil – sophisticated or not, I leave to others to decide.

After the four-week trial, these are my findings: The product does keep the skin moisturized for longer, and I have to say my skin has a slightly more even skin tone – as well as looking a bit more “satiny.” My main concerns, however, are the wrinkles and gravity-challenged skin that comes with 58 years of living. For those areas this product did little.

To be fair, though, I don’t think the target group for this product is 50+ people, since we need more of “re-” as in regain and restore. The strength of this product is probably more of “keep what you have for longer,” so if you’re in your 30s and you have $300 burning in your pocket you might think of going for this one. (Actually, if I were in my 30s I’d like to try the whole system.)

I have been using Luxtural products for over two years now and the results are very good. My skins is smooth and rejuvenated. Over the years I tried many skin care products and after a short time of 2-3 months my skin rejected them. This changed when I started using Luxtural. The products are gentle on the skin while they are effective. My skin is happy with product every evening. I recommend trying it.

As a consumer who is using the Luxtural range for more than a year, I can say just one word...Fabulous!
I actually was introduced to the line, via the Serum that my friend recommended me to try.
After using the serum solely for few months and being very happy with the amazing results, I decided to try the whole line.
The products work alone or together...if you read their web site it says so.
Also the Silicone is one drop in the “sea” of ingredients and reading the whole list you can see that there are many amazing ingredients, oils and extracts that can give you this velvety feel that I love so much.
I am an MD, practicing as a Plastic Surgeon, so I know what I am talking about. Picking one ingredient from the list of ingredients is wrong. The “ Silicones” referred to in the reviewer’s article-refer to polymers widely used and known for years in the cosmetic and therapeutic industry. Polymers do not penetrate the skin barrier when topically applied. Some silicone forms are used for treating scars-mainly hypertrophic scars (e.g. Kelo-Cote,NewGel..) in order to soften and smooth the scars.
Let’s face it; some of my colleagues even inject Silicone oil as fillers…..
I recommend Luxtural products to many of my patients.
Talking about results...after using the serum alone, I have my skin improved its tone, softness hydration and also soft lines, especially those above my lips and the sides of the eyes by at least 60%, since I have started.
The Serum, when applied at night by itself....leaves my skin in the morning, very smooth and lifted, actually, I never had a better serum then that and the price is definitely justified!
There are other products with similar claims –charging very high prices-which I found incomparable to this product.
    My whole experience is excellent!

I looked at their web site Karin and can see that their products are marketed to be purchased and used together just like you mentioned.

From looking at their formulas though and being very under-impressed, the only ones I can imagine reaping any benefit of buying and using all three products ($588) are the folks at Luxtural.

I am sure with all the silicones and PEGs though, the products do feel quite luxurious as their name would indicate.

Often products within lines do compliment one another quite well -- or even compliment use with products from other brands. But seriously, any product that is $276 should be capable of being used and reviewed on its own -- and also be ready for some heavy scrutiny by label readers.

I don't know why the first reviewer even bother to test this product, if she was not going to use it in conjunction with the other 2 Luxtural products. They are designed to be used together. I have been using the line for a few years and I do see a difference, also with fine lines, and I am well over 50.
