I have very testy skin. It has a mind of its own and is like a moody diva, breaking out one day, and erupting in dry red patches the next; I can barely keep up with it. So when TIA sent me the Delicate Skin Calming Gel Mask by M.A.D Skincare, I was excited to give the mask a try.

To start off with, the gel smells wonderful! I am big on fragrance and practice aromatherapy at home, so I feel like I have a good foundation for judging scents. This particular mask has a nice, subtle, uplifting herbal scent to it. The consistency of the clear gel is lovely; it glides over the skin and does not feel sticky.

The mask is packed full of yummy flower and herbal extracts, as well as other ingredients such as peptides to help soothe and replenish and protect the skin. I was mostly interested to see how this mask handled my redness and dermatitis flare-ups. After applying the gel to my clean skin, it provided a wonderful cooling effect. It felt so nice that I left the mask on for longer than recommended, which was three to five minutes. After rinsing it off and drying my face, my skin was less red and my pores looked smaller. I would say the product works more like a toner. I did not find the mask to be hydrating as the box states, and I tend to have oily skin so I suspect that it might be too drying for some. It did not irritate my testy skin one bit.

Although I noticed that my redness was lessened immediately after using the mask, it seems the effect was not sustained for more than a few hours. Overall, I think this product word work well as a gentle, soothing mask for those with dermatitis or eczema or other sensitive skin issue, but it would not be in my go-to arsenal of heavy-hitters. Because it’s not terribly hydrating, I would also not recommend it for those with dry skin. Perhaps I would use this after a long, hot day or a stint at the gym to calm the skin gently, but generally I don’t have a need for this product. The box states to use the mask one to two times per week, but I do wonder if using it daily would provide more lasting results.

    Hi Stephanie,

I used the mask about 7 times, with pretty much the same results each time. I have not tried to use it every day, but now that I have a rare few days off in a row for the holidays, I might give it a try!

    Hi Laura,
Glad to have your review, and I am now wondering how many times did you use the product, just the once that you wrote about or multiple times with the same results each time?

I also wonder what would happen if you used it daily, hence the question.
