A fantastic, anti-aging multitasker that repairs and prevents damage

I have recently been testing the M.A.D. Skincare Youth Transformation Age Corrective Serum ($60 in the shop), a newly launched line that I was fortunate enough to run across at the 10th annual International Esthetics, Cosmetics & Spa Conference (IECSC) in New York earlier this year. M.A.D. Skincare’s philosophy is to combine the best of science and nature, employing maximum active levels of ingredients, while maintaining product integrity without parabens or sulfates. M.A.D. Skincare’s product line is divided into five skin concerns and the Youth Transformation Age Corrective Serum is a daily treatment from the anti-aging category. Like Marta, who tested the M.A.D. Skincare Spot On Targeted Skin Brightening Serum ($38 in the shop), I, too, am very impressed by the quality of ingredients and performance for the price.

The Youth Transformation Age Corrective moniker is a bit deceiving as it is both a preventative as well as a corrective serum. It does indeed have cutting-edge ingredients with corrective properties, most notably Unirepar T-43, a bioactive complex of amino acids consisting of acetyl tyrosine, adenosine triphosphate (ATP), proline, yeast extract and butylene glycol. Topical use of ATP for wound healing deficiencies has produced promising results and in 2009 researchers found that direct intracellular delivery of ATP can accelerate the healing process of skin wounds at an “extremely fast” speed “never seen or reported in the past.” Proline is involved in the body’s production of collagen and is used in anti-aging formulas due to its ability to strengthen and renew aging skin cells. According to a study published in Cosmetics & Toiletries, Unirepair T-43 The combination of acetyl tyrosine and proline promotes an increase of the natural repair mechanism and accelerates repair of CPDs (UV induced lesions) and therefore reduces DNA damage and the consequent triggering of the inflammation reaction. Further, the authors concluded that Unirepair T-43 could be used as a pre-treatment or an after-treatment in day products to act immediately against UV-induced skin oxidation and in night products to help recovery and repair.

But Youth Transformation doesn’t stop there. There is also Symglucan, which is derived from beta glucan. According to a clinical study in the International Journal of Cosmetic Science, beta-glucan deeply penetrated skin, showing a significant reduction of wrinkle depth and height, and overall roughness. There is also a blend of natural actives from herbal extracts known as Sedaplant Richter, which consists of fennel, hops, chamomile, balm mint, mistletoe, and yarrow, all known to have skin-soothing, anti-inflammatory and mildly disinfective properties, together with urea and allantoin which enhance those activities. Lastly, Youth Transformation is formulated with the tried and true Matrixyl 3000 for good measure.

I have been applying the Youth Transformation serum over Skinceuticals CE Ferulic to my face and neck daily. It is a lightweight serum that easily dispenses from the pump and has a faint pleasant scent that quickly dissipates. A little goes a long way and while it is quick to absorb, it leaves the skin with a silky feeling, somewhat similar to a primer (but not exactly). I usually only wait a few minutes before applying sunscreen and have never had any problems with “pilling.” Within a few weeks of use, I noticed a smoothness and glow that my skin didn’t have before I started using Youth Transformation. It is an excellent antioxidant to complement the CE Ferulic product and will be a staple in my regimen going forward! Not only does Youth Transformation prevent damage, I’ve also used this wonderful serum for its anti-inflammatory and soothing benefits post-chemical peels. What an awesome find!
